Curtis Martin had just left as a FA for JETES and they needed a #1 back. Edwards production in his one season almost matched Martin's 1100 yd rushing and 300 yds receiving albeit for a lower average 3.8 v 4.0 which wasn't bad for a rookie. He was third RB taken behind Enis and Fred Taylor at #18. Pickings were slim with Ahman Green and Michael Pittman drafted much later and only other productive RBs.
The Patriots don’t have 2 impact players to trade. They can’t afford to give up the few that they have. I would offer a 2nd for him, but that’s all, unless they want Cole Strange and Kendrick Bourne.
Yep.
Agree. I didn't like his kamikaze style of play. Media loved it, but it was dirty.Bob Sanders was a Head-Hunter who deserved every ****ing injury he received, and more. ****ing Hated that ****ing dirty little mother****er. **** him.
I'm interested as to where you think he should've been drafted. As we've discussed before, Moss would've been the obvious choice had they kept Martin. But since Martin was gone, they had to take a RB.And Edwards never should've been drafted when he was in the first place.
Edwards was the obvious pick for that era, but there was nothing that wowed you watching him play. Aside from the Tenn game early in the year and the 49ers late in the season, he was really bad against the better run defenses.Gotta disagree. With that said, I think he would've been good enough to help the Pats get to the playoffs in 1999 which means Bill/Tom are probably elsewhere.
I thought the Pats were usually 2nd to the Cowboys , why the slip to No 4 ... has this to do with ticket sales , less money or sponsors etc ???
As well as the drafting. His last three drafts have been top 3 in the NFL replacing lost free agents with starters.e.g. Dejean, BlankenshipHowie's a little prick, and he was in over his head early during his tenure there under Chumley Reid; but he seems to have the wheeling & dealing part of the business down pat now...
Vinaiteri was awful in 1999. And if he made game winning kicks against KC and Buffalo, Pats go 10-6 and are at Seattle in the Wild Card.A more-accurate Vinatieri could've done that all by himself.
I was praying the Pats would take Moss. They took a WR in the 2nd so it was definitely a need and I thought Moss was the best player in college that year. I had a business associate that was a Vikings fan and I told him they took the best player in the draft. For once I was correct. Not really sure they HAD to take a RB at #18 overall. I know I didn't want them to do so, and that's in the knowledge that Martin was already gone.
