It's easy, and only takes a few moments. The day before, it sounded like the defense (especially the defensive line) had a field day. Part of the problem is that most of the reporters are focused on the offensive players at these joint practices, so it's hard to tell how the defense is doing. At this time of year the past few seasons we'd always hear the defense is ahead of the offense. This season so far I'd say it's the other way around. As well as Maye is doing (as long as he doesn't fumble) - McCarthy also lit up our defense yesterday. Lots of work to do.
Agreed. Following the reports from yesterday McCarthy completions were all short throws and he was running for his life all game due to pressure. That's what you want out the D line.. Marcus Jones was also targeted heavily. As he was on hockinson for some odd reason.. go back to the 1st practice the defense had reportedly 14 sacks or something like that... these practices are all scripted and controlled to protect the players as well.At this time of year the past few seasons we'd always hear the defense is ahead of the offense. This season o far I'd say it's the other way around. As well as Maye is doing (as long as he doesn't fumble) - McCarthy also lit up our defense yesterday. Lots of work to do.
The DL has been disruptive all camp. I expect this to continue into week 1...The day before, it sounded like the defense (especially the defensive line) had a field day. I agree. Campbell will be above average? Excellent? We will have to wait and see. Still need more next year to fix this O line.I think we have to be mindful that current all pro level OTs Dawkins, slater, Stanley.. for example all struggled as rookies.. when we played Buffalo we feasted on Dawkins side.. back then.. the fact Vrabel and Marrone have had him plactated as the starter basically since he got here is confirmation that they feel confident in his abilities. At LG Strange was the starting LG but he play slipped and Wilson's game got better. Is the OL perfect? No, But it's far better than last season. Training camp is over. It's all about the 53 and the lead up to week 1 and beyond from here.. we want to see the team improve as the season goes along not the opposite like that last few seasons.
Agreed. I believe Campbell is getting more and more comfortable as he adapts the the NFL. Week 1 starts off with Crosby for him.. being that it's the first game and he has all preseason to prepare for him I can see him holding his own. It's said Campbell has the strongest hands on the OL.. Moses is a stop gap as is Bradbury, Wilson and Campbell will be the perennial studs in the future going forward. Onwenu has had a bounce back camp and will be solid.. we'll see going forward.. I think Bryant is the likely guy to end up being the RT down the line.. I think before some of these local media outlets starts harsh criticism of this years OL they need to go back and watch last years..I agree. Campbell will be above average? Excellent? We will have to wait and see. Still need more next year to fix this O line.
This is all about the patiots an no one else.. even though the Vikings got blown out in the post season they were a 14 win team and a NFC contender.. we are a 4 win team that is trying to become a contender.. so if we need to play guys then definitely do so.. also I believe the coaches know who they likely guys are to make the 53.. as they see them on a daily basis.I'm not really sure what you are saying here. The point was he is having a good camp, and looks on his way to a top 10 or better QB. Most mistakes have been pressure related, so the original poster is saying that Maye's good camp is kind of being lost in the shuffle. Not really sure what the 3 tds vs 4 tds in the regular season has to do with anything.
No kidding. The media narratives have been all over the place this summer.I caught the same thing…and it’s actually maddening because almost every practice has had literally conflicting reports on what actually happened.
Kind of looking forward to the game so at least I can watch it for myself.
I really want to watch Campbell, LG (guessing they hold Wilson out), and Bradbury.
That said, Raiders game will be more telling because they will scheme it up to help the line.
They all compete with each other for stories..No kidding. The media narratives have been all over the place this summer.
Campbell will get destroyed against Crosby if he's not getting much help on the line. And that's ok because he WILL bounce back stronger. Campbell will be a good LT...but not week 1.Week 1 starts off with Crosby for him.. being that it's the first game and he has all preseason to prepare for him I can see him holding his own.
My biggest concern on Defense is stopping the run, they seem so determined to get to QB, it was either Barmore or Williams that said we don’t have to worry about reads, it’s just meet in the backfield. My only concern on D is the ability to cover TEs.. we'll see how that goes with Bowers week 1. I'd say put gonzo on him?
All day long...they should run a lot behind Campbell right at Crosby, get him on his heels then Campbell will put him on his back.
running to the left right at the defensive ends will wear those ends down, and take away from their pass rush abilityThe Pats are going to be a running team first, if they are successful at running the ball which I strongly believe they will be that will make the line O-Line better pass blockers. These joint practices are mostly passing camps and D-Lines are pinning their ears back. In week 1 they should run a lot behind Campbell right at Crosby, get him on his heels then Campbell will put him on his back.
Campbell is getting better... but is still susceptible to an inside move ... needs to work on that a bitAgreed. I believe Campbell is getting more and more comfortable as he adapts the the NFL. Sad to say sounds like Williams officially has a hands issue.
I would say that is definitely a track record. Does not provide any confidence. I don't think he is a viable option at any position. A body yes, capable no.Pro-Football-reference.com
While the PS isn't tracked in terms of GAMES, it is tracked under transactions.
Agree except for Lowe. I believe he is a serviceable pass blocker, back up left tackle.I was the most anti Mayo poster on this board. Pretty much from day 1.
4 of the 5 starters have never played a down for the Patriots. Perhaps you let them play before you wrote them off and blame them for the play of last years OL.
Lowe doesn’t belong in the NFL and he was replaced by the consensus best LT in the draft.
Jacobs was worse and he is replaced by a long time quality starter in the league.
Wilson has earned a starting spot, and no one, literally no one, has had a bad thing to say about him. Last years LG didn’t belong in the NFL.
We replaced practice squad poach with a 5 year 80 game NFL starter.
If you don’t see upgrade you are lying or not too bright.

Well, I maintain its not rocket science. If you are playing Crosby, Watt and that class of defensive end, the tackles need some help from schemes, chips, etc. If they leave him on an island he will get beat sometimes, doesn't mean he was terrible. The other guys are playing too, and they may have long resumes.Campbell will get destroyed against Crosby if he's not getting much help on the line. And that's ok because he WILL bounce back stronger. Campbell will be a good LT...but not week 1.
