Since Bourne is injured, it may benefit everyone involved if he is put on IR DTR and traded when a team can work out a healthy Bourne.

I see Bourne as odd man out
teams saves $12m if he is cut or traded. minimal dead cap this year and next
removes another one of Bill's players

Yeah, I don't understand why anybody (other than end of the road Belichick) would keep Bourne over a QB's favorite target, as Boutte has been described. It was like when Bill tried to replace Jakobi with JuJu. Why do that when Jakobi had established himself as one of Mac's security blankets? Same now with Boutte.

This is probably it for Bourne in NE and he knows it.

if they arent going to keep him, just release him now...

give him the ability to sign with anyone ahead of cut down day

Basically his only chance would seem to be if everyone else did so bad they decide to ignore his injury history (including last week) and price tag.

He did do well with Josh several years ago and somehow enough of the rest have sucked too that one could almost make a case but not enough.

Good guy, good team mate but just han’t consistently clicked for him here. Agree he deserves a chance to go to a better situation while pats develop their younger pkayers

I know, wink, wink, make bekieve he's healthy and cut an injured player in violation of the contract with the union.

They won’t IR him because (I believe) that will guarantee his salary for the year which is a bit high at $5.5M. They’ll most likely trade or cut him.

Edit: Actually I think that only applies if he is on the roster for game 1. So if he is put on IR at final cutdowns then he would potentially receive only a few games’ worth of that salary. Of course if he is not brought back then his agent may request an injury settlement and release.

not a wink wink type deal... they can release him with an injury designation if necessary... which is done all the time

I keep hearing about trading Bourne. But I'm not sure it's practical. What do we and the other team have to eat contract rise to do it?

Personally Bourne is a better WR than Hollins; Bourne would be better along-side Diggs. I would keep Bourne over Hollins; he's the better WR in the interim.

Diggs - Bourne - Pop - Boutte and Williams.

Better than Diggs - Hollins - Pop - Boutte and Williams.

We would have a better and more efficient Offense with Bourne in the mix. The more familiarity the better: that would help us to bring Kyle Williams along slowly.

For plays like this?

Don't get me wrong, I can't see them keeping him over Hollins or Boutte, but I don't think either is a better receiver. Bourne would be a loss.

End of an error.

Its time to move on from a 4 win 31st ranked offense team. We hear so much of what Bourne, Polk and Baker could do.

It is kind of crazy people are hanging onto what Bourne did in 2021. He's been injured 100 times since then.

It just makes sense to cut Bourne.

You could afford to keep him around last season with anticipation of "potential" in 2025. His salary jumped 4 million from 2024 to 5.5 million in 2025 and 2026. I just dont see who would trade for him when he had a good season 4 years ago.

That's not exactly true. His stats in each year following are still more than Polk and Baker combined for in their one year.

I see it as extremely thin but if we just don't like what we've seen from Hollins, Polk, and Baker this summer (which I haven't) then Bourne at least gets one more consideration. I think I'd probably just go Hollins because his size and health are better than Bourne.

Not to mention there's a chance he gets a DTR IR slot which could bye him enough time to find a spot a few weeks after cutdown.

yes, but this doesn't mean that he has to be on the 53

Basically, we cut to 55, including 2 on IR DTR. And yes, Bourne could be on the 53 and then on the IR DTR in we have more than 2. I would think that our two are Dial and Bourne if Bourne isn't healthy by cut-down day.

Yup

Another factor for Bourne is if we cut him there would be an injury settlement and depending what that cost it might just make more sense to pay him to be on DTR IR because then he at least provides some sort of insurance.
