PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 3 - July 25

2/3s of the league didn't even have him on their draft board? First I've heard of that. Bedard is a turd.

He mentioned it during the season, if not during training camp. I read word of him during the draft process too, especially during the month of April when subjects turn from the combine & pro days to other matters that appear when the coaches take their turn evaluating prospects after the scouts have finished their work...

Did you add up the trade value for the picks? The #1 prize for finishing last, the #1 pick in the first round, has nearly as high a trade valuable as the first pick trade value in rounds 2 through 7 added up.

Seems like you are not giving the #1 pick in the draft any respect.
The first pick is a HUGE value, as well as others near the top. The first pick is often worth as much as a team's total draft, certainly the rest of the draft of the team getting the pick.

The obvious example is that our first-round pick in 2024 was a huge success, making the entire draft a valuable draft, worth more that the whole draft of some others. Everything else was a bonus (we did truly awfully with the rest of the picks).

My point is that folks are often saying that each pick is better and more valued, as if they got extra value for seven picks.

I am a huge draft fan as well, follow it incredibly closely and I honestly never heard anything about that. I don't like Bedard, he thinks he knows much more than he does. I think Baker was off some teams board, but first I'm hearing about Polk.

Sign another WR, one who will take his opportunity a bit more seriously than this ****ing m-m-moron... Shouldn't be that difficult.
On second thought, I agree. Baker probably should simply waived be waived. I expect that he is being a chance to try to impress Josh for a couple of weeks. He likely is just not worth the effort.
=====
As an aside, Polk is in a very different situation. Even if should have been drafted in the 4th, that makes him a possible asset, given better coaching, a better OL and a better QB.

The fact that that DeJean was there is no longer relevant.

I am no Polk apologist, I don't think he's making the team, but should have been drafted in the 4th? Every reputable draft outlet had him rated as a 2nd rounder, many had him as a top 50 prospect overall. He was never projected as a 4th rounder.

Sorry, it is indeed Baker, and not Polk to whom I & Bedard were referring. Polk's issues were/are more physical in nature; it's Baker who has all the other problems. Sorry again for the confusion.

He might've still been hanging-on to late-2nd-round status by the end of April, but Polk was definitely a prospect on the decline, or at least not on the rise as were others such as his teammate Jalen McMillan... And same as One-If &/or Upstater, I also started reading & hearing about McMillan being mentioned more often as the superior overall WR prospect to Polk when coaches started doing their own evals...

What also pissed me off a great deal was the terms of the trade-down with LA itself, considering what happened Immediately after the Chargers took McConkey...

Well one thing is for sure, those teams that had Baker off their draft board look pretty smart right now because that guy is clueless. Seems to have the smarts and maturity of a 10 year old.

The worst part about that whole ordeal was even knowledgable fans (couch coaches) knew Mck would be a perfect Patriot. Anyone who watched college ball knew it, all the media outlets knew it, everyone knew it....except the 2 bums making the picks for us. Cheery on top when he absolutely scorched us late in the season.....and cost me my Fantasy Football Championship (of course I was playing against him in the final).

This makes no sense to me.

On the draft value chart, that [ick is infinitely more valuable.

I know this was a dumb trade, but remember: the Vikings traded their ENTIRE DRAFT for that pick.

Since I'm the one who brought this up, my point was that, yes, having the #1 pick generally gives you a lot more draft capital than #32. . . .

BUT that excess is almost entirely concentrated in that #1 pick. Round by round, after that, is really not much different from any other team.

There is also a little tactical or timing value to the first pick IN almost EVERY ROUND.

If you pick first, you had all night to think it over; entertain trade offers; reevaluate the other teams’ picks and see if a position run is moving one of your targets up your board.
Hard to throw a point value on all night versus 5 or 10 minutes; but there is a value there.

If they manage to unlock the kid I saw at LSU, this would be the steal of free agency.
That School again with Great Players scattered all over the League. Watching K Chaisson closely.

eh, would i hate the move if they brought him in? no.

at the same time, i don't think we would be getting a one year prove it deal type contract out of him...

I will let Elliot & Co puzzle it out.
From what rappaport and NESN mentioned on Wilkins was that it was a disagreement on rehab decisions between his representatives and the organization. So with a new regime in place under Carroll the organization wanted no drama. Apparently Wilkins is healthy and ready to play. He and Vrabel have a relationship, and Vrabel even saying he would look into it.

Imagine having Wilkins, Barmore, white, Williams up front. Again there's risk with everything.

Typically when a player with big guaranteed money is released, they go sign for vet minimum somewhere else because anything their new team pays would just offset what their old team is already paying them.

Wilkins’ situation is interesting because the Raiders voided his guaranteed money, so it would seem like that approach is off the table, but he’s suing to get it back and seems like a situation he would likely win… So I don’t really know how that would work in the end. Would money paid to him get offset later when the suit is settled?

May work to NE’s advantage, having a healthy amount of cap space still, if he’s not just a “play for vet minimum” candidate.

from what I have read, he is not ready to play, with the team suggesting a second surgery, He declined to have it. when he was released he was on the PUP.

I would not consider him to be healthy and ready to go.

From what I have read, he's no where near ready.

Christian Wilkins would look great in a Pats uniform. Send him to Mass General to get fixed up.
I read an article that implied he does not want to get surgery on his foot and depending on the injury that could be a deal breaker imo
