The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Name a coach that would bench a QB on a winning streak for a QB that had a sub .300 record over the last full season of games.

ALL of the risk at that point was in benching Tom and starting Drew. If you put Bledsoe in and it disrupts whats going on, all the blame goes on Belichick for screwing up a good thing. If you start Brady you save face by not rocking the boat AND if he stumbles at all, you have the fallback of going back to Bledsoe. There wasn't a real decision to be made there. You keep the good thing going until the situation changes.

The reality is most teams just simply don't get these choices.
This is such BS revisionist history

I see no hate whatsoever in the post you called a hate filled diatribe.
He was actually ****ting on the poster's profession while hating on his post. That's a two-for-one special.

You mean that coach saw that the future HOF QB was better than the current QB in practice but still decided to go with older worse QB because he had more experience and was paid more. Then an injury forced his hand.
How was Bill going to take Drew out if he was healthy? Bill would have taken a beating if he took a healthy Drew out during the season.

That's a perfectly legitimate take. However, people pretending that it was anything but an injury that forced the coach to start Brady and acting like it was his genius that caused him to start Brady are just grasping at straws to credit Belichick with anything they can. Brady became a starter because an injury forced the teams hand.

No he didn't
He did, it's been posted on here plenty of times. We have his own words. If you want to ignore that so you can post out of context quotes of Brady praising Belichick, that's on you. But Brady straight up said the friction he had with Belichick is why he left and the only way he would stay is if that was resolved.

Even staying with Brady when Drew came back was a no-brainer. It was obvious that Brady was better.

Brady left Bill didn't force him and would have resigned him if he had given him the chance and definitely would have used the tag had Kraft not given it away.

Or..."if Bill had ended up anywhere other than where Tom did" . . .

I think we agree that each was essential to their shared accomplishments. No other view is logical. In the end, Tom was no longer capable of playing QB at a high level, and Bill was no longer able to coach/GM at a high level. Sic transit Gloria Mundi.
Tom Brady was absolutely, 100% still playing at a high level when Belichick let him go - and replaced him with an over-the-hill Cam Newton.

Plenty of coaches who want to keep their jobs and have an owner who is paying a QB the highest salary in the league would have caved, record or not.

Is it that hard to say Bill made the right choice?

There's literally no instance in NFL history of a coach bringing back the first QB in similar circumstances

After I call you out for gaslighting you respond with more. Lol

Personnel and coaching was a clusterfk.. sure sounds like the GM's fault to me. And that's one reason why he's no longer here.
Jonathan was in charge, we know that because he fired Bill.
I love this team Bill line. Funny how they're always stumped trying to figure out why Bill couldn't do this with any other QB just Brady. Huh. Go figure.
Facts suck for you. Bill drafted and developed Brady… and Brady needed a lot of development.

Bill has also won with merely average Vinnie Testeverde, Cassel, JimmyG and Brissett with a torn tendon in his throwing hand. He can win with merely good QB play, as most great coaches can.

^ Says the poster who wants us to think his hoodied hero wasn't the GM of the team when the results aren't good... only when they are good he gets all the credit. Lolol
Collaboration began in the 2021 season, the owner and coach told us this.

10-7
8-9
4-13
4-13

That’s the result with collaboration in charge of team building.

In Tom’s last season he played well, he just couldn’t do Bill’s job after he had Arians fired… no more than Mayo could. The Buc’s team fell apart.

Player/GM’s don’t exist for a reason.
Tom managed his end more elegantly than Bill has to this point, Lord knows. That's the difference. Maybe Bill will develop the self-awareness needed to avoid the dismal end toward which he presently seems headed. I hope so.
If Bill wins a national championship or has an ultra competitive Carolina team his end is far from written.

Also comparing a GM/Coach to a player is absurd… a GM/Coach can’t just leave for an ultra talented roster elsewhere. This isn’t basketball, Bill’s not Phil Jackson and Tom most certainly more reflected LeBron’s exit to Miami or Durant’s to Golden State. Apples/oranges

No it’s the result of a lousy GM and a formerly great head coach who became one of the worst in the league because the game had passed him by.

So weird that BB gets all the credit for developing Brady when he couldn’t develop any other QB. Notably one promising QB prospect being turned into a complete mess…

And what exactly did Bill “win” with those other guys? Btw Vinny peaked being coached by Parcells not BB.

Except for the defense, which was still among the league best… odd how he lost the ability to find talent but only on one side of the ball, the one that Jonathan took interest in and wanted to switch to a West Coast system. He still found studs on defense and on special teams like Schooler. Odd.

Nobody can trust the opinion of a hater. It will be funny when North Carolina has a resurgence… you’ll no doubt call it luck.
