Last week I proposed trading the first round pick to the Ravens for Suggs, I would rather pay Suggs top money than almost any draft pick.

This week I am shifting gears, trade the #4 pick to Dallas (they can take McFadden if they choose) for both their first rounders (lets say #23 from Cleveland and #31) and we get the rights to Marian Barber who is an RFA.

I think someone said this already and I have never claimed to have an original thought, sorry if I stole this from you.

Round 1 - Pick #23) Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Round 1 - Pick #31) Chris Ellis, OLB, Virginia Tech
Round 2 - Pick #63) Charles Godfrey, CB/S, Iowa
Round 3 - Pick #70) Heath Benedict, OT/OG, Newberry
Round 3 - Pick #95) Ben Mofftt, ILB, South Florida

and Marian Barber III

Other offseason moves:
- Moss is resigned
- Stallworth is released
- Washington is released
- Samuel is signed
- Bruschi comes back for one more year

... it is my dream, didn't say it was based in reality.

They are going to tender Barber at a 1 and a 3, almost certainly, and try to resign him.

There is NO CHANCE they trade the value of three ones and a three for the 3rd pick in the draft.

Maybe, but I don't think they really expect to get a 1st and a 3rd for Barber, especially if they could swap him for McFadden.

According to this chart, http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/valuechart.html

they would be trading 23 and 31 = 1360 for the number 4 (1800) leaving a 440 point difference, the same as a round 2 (42) overall pick. Maybe the Pats have to throw in a 2nd or 3rd. But that is the point of a crazy trade, they are crazy.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it would be a waste to draft a CB with a #23 overall pick if we also were re-signing Samuel. Despite last night's tough game for the secondary, our pass D and trio of Samuel, Gay and Hobbs has been really good. I'd prefer to use it on a MLB if there is one that is worthy of being drafted near there.

Towards the end of the post I started to get crazy, I don't think there is any way Samuel returns which is too bad. IMO he is a young player in his prime, he understands the system and is getting better. Gay is a free agent and I think he is easily replaced.

2 1st round picks and Marion Barber? I'd sign off on that deal as long as we could extend Barber to a REASONABLE contract.

I like it. I like Ben Moffitt as a late rounder. But two guys from the same school? Kinda wierd. Signing Barber, Moss and two firsts would be the hardest part. We could then trade #31 for the 49ers #1 next year.

Frank Beamer said that Ellis is the best defensive player he has ever coached.

Maybe he forgot about Bruce Smith?

I don't think Beemer was there then, at least not as HC. If he was, this is either an outrageous statement, or Ellis is severely underrated.

I haven't seen Ellis in the first round anywhere, most have lower.

I've seen Ben Moffitt projected in the 6th/7th round. Funny how seemingly good players fall.

I would be happy with this but like you said

"it is my dream, didn't say it was based in reality."

It won't happen. BB will take a TE,OL,DL,WR and no LB's.
Will we ever draft a LB on day 1?

Updated for December 26

Trade Patriots first round pick to Miami for Jason Taylor and the Dolphins 2nd round pick.

There are cap issues but maybe something could be worked out, I am sure Matt light would gladly pay for 1/2 his salary.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/Miami/WWHI/default.htm

"However, one potential sticking point could be the salary-cap hit a team would absorb by taking on Taylor. He’s due to earn $7.5 million in 2008 and $8 million in 2009, which is a hefty price tag for a player who is already 33 years old."

BP is going to clean house in Miami much as he did here. He is going to cut tons of garbage. Miami should have a ton of cap space to pursue FA's and trades. He is going to bring in as many Dallas FAs as possible.
I doubt he cuts Taylor, but most others are fair game.

Not if he wants to accelerate all of the dead money charges this year by cutting a lot of people. I'd take a run at Zach Thomas (as injured as he is) he would still be alright in a rotation at ILB.
