Are you really labeling him "can't consistently stay on the field" because he failed one protocol test? The second time he passed it so consistently is a pretty big stretch from once.
He missed parts of 3 games.
I don't care about 'one protocol test', he's no good to them on the sidelines.

What was the 3rd game? I remember he went into protocol one game and probably could have played but the independent guys didn't let him. Then he went into protocol another game and he was able to re-enter. What was the third?

Agreed.. Drake showed more ability and potential in his rookie season than.i ever saw in Mac, Zappe or stidham combined. He's our guy.. he considering all the mess around him was very impressive.

Drake finished with 15-10,TD to INTS ratio.. let me repeat that he had no HC, No OC and no OL.. his WRs gave away 3 INTS to the opposing team. He also didn't start until week 5.. for a rookie in that ****ty situation I think the kid fared well.
Maye committed rookie QB mistakes that just go with the job. A year to reflect on 2024 will go along way in his development.

I never got the impression that Maye was overwhelmed like Corky Jones.

Is there a reason you have a hate on for Maye?
I agree he's not a top 10 until he proves he's a top 10 but you seem very negative.
"Hate on" is pretty harsh.
I'm just going to look at **** rationally this time around, rather than being a blind Mac Jones apologist like I was in 2021 and 2022.

I've constantly said, he's shown a lot of good things. But the turnovers are real, and so is the inability to stay on the field. I hope they're fixed going forward.

The TOs come from him trying to make a play to help his team. Josh Allen committed the same type of TOs his rookie year even into his second season.

If the TOs continue under Josh then your concerns are validated.

And into his third season. The Bills were terrible. This is my concern.

Oh without a doubt I see where you're going.. the situation around Drake was disastrous last season starting with the wolf in a GMs clothing.. we have enough to support a young QB, we we want to weaponize the offense, Jacoby gives us the best chance to win right now... His HC never engaged on the sidelines, his OC admitted he couldn't even call everything on his play sheet.. so i expected a much more fluent, sounds and professional offense this season. Josh allen was a cowboy until dabol settled him down.

And it should be better. I'm just not going to automatically assume he's a top 10 QB because they drafted a tackle and signed Diggs off an ACL. There's a lot of moving parts, and just assuming a massive (and it would be *massive*) 2nd year leap for Maye without seeing a single second on the field just makes me reflexively want to pump the brakes.

I get that your cautioning. Wich is smart. Becuase your right what happens on the field is what ultimately matters. I'm highly optimistic for Drake due to the coaching around him. Drake has traits and qualities that will allow him to grow to be great QB. So we'll see soon enough!

Maye vs Jackson will be an interesting game

If the Patriots defense is as good as I believe it’s going to be then this should be a great game, and a serious test of their development.

I agree. I have high hopes for Maye, but he’s got to show it on the field for a couple of seasons before we start calling him a top QB in the league. Like every other young QB there are major hurdles to get over before you can put him in the top echelon. The first one he has already had experience with, which is how they play when the talent around them is lacking, and though he only played a half season, and he was a rookie, he acquitted himself pretty well. The next hurdle is how he does when defensive coordinators have the film on him, know what he likes to do and doesn’t do well at, and game plan to take away his strengths and make him beat you with their weaknesses? We will see that from here on out, so the next couple of seasons will provide a good look at that dynamic. The next hurdle is how well he can play through the beating an NFL season puts on a QB? Nobody was better at this than Brady. Nobody was worse in this regard than Mac Jones, who was down for the count with a boo boo. Jimmy Garrapolo is a great example of the inability to play hurt, and it really cost him what could have been a good career. I have confidence that Maye will be a tough QB who plays through pain and real injury, but we will see if that’s true or not? Ultimately Maye will have to deal with these obstacles and more as his career progresses, and he will have to overcome all of them to become a top tier QB in the NFL. I believe he will do so, but he has to prove it first.

If you go by last year's rankings the Pats have a very easy schedule this year.

The toughest AFC schedules are the North and West, but as usual the Chiefs make out anyway. They have 6 games against last year's playoff teams (other than the Bolts) and 5 of them are in KC (Philly, Bal, Det, Was and Hou). Their only away game is at Buffalo. How do they do that every year?
