OT: Brock Purdy gets paid

49ers showing why they're smarter than the likes of Dallas who have waited and waited on contracts and ended up paying a premium a year later.

People will think wow they're crazy paying him 53m a year he's not worth that but what happens when the 49ers with the weakest schedule in the league win 11-12-13 games and the QB market inflates another 12 months down the line it costs them even more.

Within a year he won't even be making top 10 money anymore, he's already only the 7th highest paid annually.

I get the point : he’ll cost more going forward. But, can you win with Purdy ? Not the regular season, I mean when it counts…

I guess I just don’t think it’s smart to overpay just because you’d need to pay even more later.

Dude has $2.8M in career earnings to this point. Whatever you might think of his abilities or the size of the contract, he damn right well earned a payday

He did have the lead in overtime in a Super Bowl.

Part of this is thank you pay, he saved Kyle Shanahan and John Lynchs jobs if they don't luck into Purdy as Mr Irrelevant everyone remembers how they blew 3 first round picks on a QB who couldn't even play in the league and nuked their franchise, they got so lucky they even got someone who functions at an above average NFL level after that disaster.

53m is crazy money but it's just now the going rate for an above average QB, no one thinks he's an all pro even the 49ers, contracts like 55m a year for Lawrence and 60m a year for Dak make it hard to give even say the 12th best QB up for a contract less than 50m.

Dak and Jerruh blew the market for QB's to hell and gone twice over. Every owner in the league gotta be cussing Jerruh's ass out... just... DAMN Man, WTF??!!

There's hope for you yet, Mac 'N Cheese.

SF has been in a difficult position regarding Brock Purdy for a while now.

While that seems like too much money, what's their alternative?

Let him walk, and draft Trey Lance v2.0?

Become the NFCW version of the Browns?

Rolling the dice with Purdy makes the most sense, in my opinion.

Actually, the talk in SF is that York is getting annoyed with shelling out so much money and nothing to show for it. The 49ers are the biggest underachievers in a very long time. Aiyuk was the latest disaster. They paid Kittle earlier. The pressure is now on Shanahan and Lynch.

The 49ers roster is declining and Purdy had a pretty bad year in tight moments when the offense needed a play to be made. He choked away 5-6 games when he didn't have his full entourage of All Pro players. That should've been a red flag for the organization. I would've waited and see how Purdy does this season before paying him. I'd rather pay more for a sure thing than saving a few bucks on a question mark.

And the real sad part about that is, Jerruh has no SB's to show for it!

There is legit question marks on Purdy, I think the better deal would be something like 3 years, obviously the player wants the long term deal and financial security but even this kid might agree that is better than nothing specially for a Mr irrelevant who lucked out in a stacked roster.

Is there a market for Purdy out of SF? I don't think so.

So I get the 49ers were in a difficult position, they probably can get out of this deal after 3 years but it seems like they are headed nowhere and Purdy reached his peak getting close to win a SB, just like JimmyG in the same organization.
