Player Signing Welcome to New England Lan Larison, RB UCAL DAVIS

This is why I’m a fan of the Mack Hollins addition. In 50/50 run/pass downs he can be the X while in more obvious passing downs, perhaps he comes off the field and Diggs or Williams play the X.

Other than perhaps the DL, our RB room is now the best positional group on the roster. I’d give it to the DL if Barmore is healthy or we had an elite pass rusher.

I think McDaniels can produce some wizardry with these RBs.

It’s incredible he ran a 4.46 considering he was coming off ankle surgery a few months prior. When I watched him on video, actually looks much faster than 4.46. Not that 4.46 is slow, but he looks faster.

I saw his videos a few weeks prior to the draft, and they definitely made me go “hmmm”, really interesting prospect. I’m seeing a bigger Danny Woodhead or a faster Burkhead. But Larison looks like a really good receiving back too. Hell, they threw to him deep like a WR.

Him and Chism will be my training camp binkies for sure.
He is quick , but rumored not having home run speed.

No problem because its all about time consuming drives keeping the other team from the ball and giving your own defense a break. I hope that he makes the team.

Larison played at the Shrine, so it can't be him. Consensus that it's QB Tommy Mellott who was picked up by TB12 the Raiders in the 6th:

"When I was in the fourth grade, my first practice in little guy football, I had his [JE11's] jersey on," Mellott reflected with a smile. "He was a rookie, so he was just a punt returner. But, I had his rookie card, I had his jersey. He’s a guy for whatever reason I’ve leaned towards, I suppose.

I really wanted Mellott and considering his character, I’m aLittle surprised we didn’t get him. I suspect the Edelman/Brady links won him over to the Raiders.

I do think the Woodhead/Burkhead hybrid comps are justified. Not necessarily in terms of physicality but in terms of how he’ll be used. He’s the ideal RB3 who can be used as an all purpose back.

I've thought for a while that we're going to be a run first team next year and I can envisage a lot of 12 formations where, instead of the traditional FB/HB combo, we could see HB/HB combinations where we either combine thunder and lightning with Stevenson and Henderson or combine Henderson and Larison for a more pass orientated 2 HB set. The run blocking abilities of Mack Hollins and Treveyon Henderson really does turn a formation like that into a 50/50 run/pass conundrum for a DC.

Intrigued to see what develops.

What we know from McDaniels in the past is that he liked to use the huddle to switch his personnel groupings and runs a lot out of the I (although he uses lots of motion and disguises in the actual plays).

Also, I want to give a wee shout to my binkie, Terrell Jennings. If you want a running back who can pick up blitzers and block, he is your guy.

A December ankle surgery kept him out of the senior all-star games, but he started climbing NFL draft boards after running a 4.46 40-yard dash at UC Davis' pro day last month.

Love this: “His message to NFL teams is simple: ‘Just roll the tape.’”

It’s legitimately perplexing that this guy wasn’t worth a late day 3 pick, particularly with that mustache.
dirk diggler.... bump bump bump bump bow wow

Might be able to develop him into a weapon that’s a decent part of the team (a bigger Danny Woodhead type). The comparisons to CMC are probably ridiculous, but a guy can dream:

I cant watch a game with that field or Boise State.
I f I had to chose between the two I would pick the red one, it seems easier to follow the action than on the Smurf turf.

This is brilliant, and not understood by a bunch of posters.

Next year I expect we will sign or draft a tall WR #1 that replaces Hollins, but this year Hollins is our big X. Can't fix everything at once. That is why the Pats were looking at Higgins in the draft, to split time with Hollins and then replace him.

The Raiders drafted Mellott in the 6th round. Mellot is obligated to go to the Raiders, I am not sure why Brady would have to win him over.

Agree Mellott would have been a great pick. Very similar to Edelman coming out of Kent state but a little faster.
Raiders had a very good draft

I think our new and improved defense will certainly keep many more games competitive.

And the offense moving the chains will give the FD some adequate rest, as opposed to the 3 and outs we saw for a few years.

As a fifth-year 'back in the Big Sky Conference last season, Larison recorded 1,465 rushing yards and 17 touchdown on 284 carries (5.2 yards/carry) on top of a significant 62 receptions for 847 yards and six additional scores. He also attempted nine passes, completing five for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Those numbers are insane.

almost every pats drafted players are “one of the most underrated” lol

Looks like Larison can cope with muddy field conditions.

That’s how Belichick met (caught) his girlfriend… or maybe it was the other way around.

Mellot is going to be a slot guy, period. But like Jules, it's going to take some time for him to make the switch probably 2 or 3 years at least It took Jules 4 before he started getting regular snaps as a receiver. The Pats have guys who can thrive in the slot with a more immediate impact (Bourne, Pops, Williams) makes him too redundant. I'd rather have Larison because he's that kind of receiver and adds run skills to mix

Mellot got to the right team if he has a chance to make it in the NFL

I wonder if we try to create something similar to the Lions with Gibbs/Montgomery. We have the pieces and I see Larison playing a role on this team beyond the fact that he also plays special teams and was just as good there as well.
