Day 3: who do we target?

I'll say

To be fair, I'd rather have Bam Bam, more of a football name.

DT, DE, CB, Safety, RB, QB.

6 picks left. 6 positions.

RB could be one they wait until UDFA to add a 2nd guy..

really hoping they target Pegues.. He's got an mean attitude and loves hitting people (plays FB on Goalline/short yardage).
I think they draft a kicker in round 7 if the top ones havent gone yet. While Fitzgerald and Borregales (?sp) top most boards, I want somebody who has kicked in cold weather like the Pittsburgh kicker Ben Sauls.

We could get players with Tyquan Thornton type speed on Day 3: not in the Second Round BB. Arian Smith Georgia and Dont'e Thornton *that name* Tennessee... value picks from now on X-WR's yeah I'm greedy.

Wolf already said day 3 would likely focus on D. Also get ready for a kicker in the 5th round.

Reckon we will see a DE at the top of the 4th and then a run stuffing DT, nickel corner and kicker in the 5th.

I think this is right. They looked at corners, so a corner in the 5th is a good guess.

A run stuffer, edge, a couple of defensive backs and a kicker.
Luckily for them there are plenty of options, between swinson, sawyer, que and kennard I’m convinced they’ll get a good one.

Please give me Swinson for my perfect draft.

Swinson Edge

Jalen Royals WR

Jackson Hawes TE

Cam Skattebo RB

T. Horton WR

J. Sawyer Edge

K. Kennard Edge

And that’s an abbreviated list. Still plenty of good players available.

Anybody against taking QB Quin Ewers?? I think he would be a good back up to Drake Maye.

Mac McWilliams is a good possibility for tomorrow at some stage.

Also keep an eye on Ruben Hyppolite, the Maryland linebacker who had a late visit for us. His pro day forty time was between 4.39 and 4.42 with a 6.96 3-cone.

Cal Safety Craig Woodson is another favourite of mine. In the past four years, only four safeties have had a pass defense grade and run defense grade of above 85 in the same season. One is Kevin Winston who went yesterday, one is Brian Branch and then there's Caleb Downs who is talked of as being the best defensive player in CFB. The fourth is Craig Woodson. He's also reported to have a plus plus character according to Daniel Jeremiah.

And one final name is linebacker Shaun Dolac of Buffalo. There's no reported contact so there's no reason to think he might be a Patriots target but he was PFFs highest graded linebacker with a 92.6 pass defense grade and is athletic too.

All of this.

I would earmark 171 for Willie Lampkin. We know Josh loves FB’s and Lampkin could offer a lot of roster flexibility by being able to fill in as an emergency IOL.

We all love Lampkin, but is he a legit FB prospect?

Run stuffing DT
coverage/cover 1 type FS
big bodied x receiver that can play a lot even if not #1
EDGE who can play in “base” defense downs but still bring some pass rush juice
LB with coverage skills who can also play the run

Those are probably the biggest needs they have this year. The draft seems to line up well for them to get a run stuffing NT. The rest seem like positions where they need higher end guys vs roster depth types and that’s kind of tough to expect on day 3, but maybe they find some gems.

Beyond that, CB and TE aren’t immediate needs but any player drafted today, if they develop well, has a clear path to being a starter by the end of their rookie deal. Draft board seems stronger at those spots than a lot of others, so probably wise to pick from those spots today at some point.

He was my original binkie. 5’10 280, and he was stonewalling 6’6 350 LB Deone Walker at the Senior Bowl. However my draft binkie is now Jackson Hawes, as a personal pass protector and blocking H-Back.

I know Wolf said defense, but I think they still need to address WR & TE. Just stick with BPA. I would LOVE for the Pats to add more explosiveness to their offense. Dont’e Thornton, would love to see them take a chance on him. He gives you great speed, but also something they really don’t have, SIZE At WR (I know, Mack Hollins). It’s truly a boom or bust pick, but if it hits, watch out.

Then they really need a young TE with size and that is a solid pass catcher and blocker. There a a decent amount of good TEs remaining. Orande Gadsen Junior is an interesting, athletic player. Gunnar Helm is a reliable TE. Fidone & Lachey are 2 guys I like as well. Fidone, besides some excellent measurables (huge wingspan and hands) is really smart, and known as a high character player. Lachey went to Iowa, enough said. But add in academic accolades, so he is smart too. Also known as a high character player.
