There are parts of your post that I both agree and disagree with - but this one is an issue that gets lost in the shuffle. He *copped* to the cocaine being his, to the cops when they showed up. The rest of the situation was made up by the girlfriend, but the cocaine was very, very real, he not only admitted to it to the cop, but he admitted it in court, and he was adjudicated on it.

Weed is one thing. Cocaine is another animal entirely.
Agreed 100%. He owned up to it. Got through it, and has been at the facilities engaged and one the best leaders on the team. His style of play and physicality is exactly what vrable wants in his DBs.

I like Campbell's presence and the way that he comports himself, but I emphatically disagree that he is the safest pick. He's the most risky pick; his tape is not good enough for a top 5 pick; and his wingspan, hand size, and arm length are not there. I would take him if he is there in the 2nd round (not impossible, btw). The pick needs to be Jeanty but I don't hate Warren.

Trade down for one of Warren, Tet,Jeanty

I do hope they can trade down but it is unlikely they can find a trade partner without getting fleeced.

However if they do find a trade partner, then trade down and take LT Campbell, WR Golden, TE Ty Warren, LB Jaylon Walker, or S Starks. No to Tet or Jeanty.

In the vids I watched he wasn’t amazing, but he’s good enough that there’s no way gets past the middle of the first round. Very good athlete with good technique. Ironically, he uses his hands and arms very well. He never lumbers and rarely lunges, yer he’s rarely caught upright. He moves very well because his feet are quick and he has strong legs.

His vids aren’t amazing but they’re pretty good against good competition. He rarely had help.

We have to get an offensive left tackle. Unfortunately it's not a great draft for LT's (not unusual, truth be told).

Maybe if we had the first pick in the draft, we could work something out to get one by trading down to later in the first round, so that we could pick one of the pretty iffy options further down, where these LT prospects really should be drafted, and grab a few extra picks.. But we had a goddam fool for a HC and an owner too besotted to pressure him into getting us that pick, so we don't have that option.

So we'll have to pick Campbell at 4, I guess, and hope for the best.

After that, can we at least stop stockpiling binkies and shiny objects for the defense-obsessed and concentrate - beyond securing an LT prospect - on rebuilding the goddam offense? Getting an LT is necessary, but that's not the only deficit on that side of the ball, obviously.

Welcome to year one of our fifth or so annual reboot of the "rebuild" in which every year is a brand new first year. We aren't going to have Drake on the cheap forever: there is no time to waste.

All he has to be is better than vederian blowe

Vederian Lowe’s RAS is in the .500’s, by far the lowest of any player I have seen. Will Campbell is in the top 2% of all tackles tested since 1987. Unfortunately there is a large contingent of fans on here who think having long arms is more important than being a great athlete. Most would draft Bronny James at 4 because he has long arms.

....

"Ooooooo noooo...there goes Tokyo go go Godzilla "

Oh wow, you just coined a proper nickname for Campbell. He could well turn Godzilla for the Patriots. Did you see his monster squat video? Godzilla-esque indeed.

[Note I was the first person to call Gronkowski "Gronk" right when he was drafted.]7

Look at the teams Jeanty played and how well he did against good teams. He will be mediocre at best. A bust in the first round.
The two best teams he played this past season were Oregon and Penn State.

Against Oregon he rushed for 192 yards and against Penn State he rushed for 104 yards. Penn State in the playoff game loaded up the box.

I’m not saying we should draft him, I wouldn’t draft a RB with 4th pick but his numbers aren’t bad against two teams that made the playoff.

Penn state 30 carries 104 yards 0 touchdowns 3.5 yards per carry
Oregon was a good game.
We will see tonight.

Good post huck as usual! I look at Matt light as a comparison to body type for Campbell he too had " short arms" as they say.. dam good LT and played at a high level for 10 seasons. I love Campbell's tenacity, his demeanor his attitude and his physicality.. he's the right choice for what Vrable is putting together to get this team back up from the bottom.

Bold to assume anyone wants to trade up
Yup, that's the catch. Obviously the Patriots should trade down, but who the heck wants to trade up to 4 if Carter is gone? Not any sane team.

Maybe the Cowboys are stupid enough to trade up for Jeanty. Maybe they think that they can fleece that Patriots as they did with the Milton theft. If would be a good trade for the Patriots if they get a reasonable return since they should still be able to get Campbell plus a bunch of later round picks.

Doubtful. It isn't done until you are on the clock.
They could be at the point now where they’ve talked to everyone and they all know it depends on what happens tomorrow once the draft begins.

I predict it’ll be Campbell from all the chatter, but be damned they need to take talent. Jeanty or try like hell to move up and get Carter.

Here's the scenario. No Hunter or Carter at #4.

Patriots trade back with the Cowboys for #12 and #44 so they can make a big Jerry Jones splash and draft Ashton Jeanty.

With these added picks, the Patriots select:

#12 LT Josh Simmons.
#38 LT Conerly Jr.
#42 WR Jayden Higgins
#69 WR Kyle Williams
#77 TE Elijah Arroyo

We hit the draft hard, early and often for offensive players. Patriots Completely restock talent on the offense side of the ball in the draft. Who says no?
I’d be shocked if Jeanty is available at the 12th pick. I think if he’s available at #10 the Bears sprint up to the podium.

Don't go out on a limb, now.

Seriously though, this poor kid has been the most scrutinized/criticized prospective first-round pick in Patriots history. Assuming he lands here, I hope we all can cut him some slack -- especially since he might eventually end up playing guard a year or two from now. It's not his fault that in any other year he wouldn't go anywhere near No. 4.

These clowns aren't going to give this kid a chance. They've made their mind up. He could make all-pro and then the all-pro team will be a joke. He could make all decade team and they'll find a problem with that.
