First player hold out (Iamaleva) ended in transfer. AFTER getting $8M beginning in HS.

Flood gates are open.

This won’t end well.

That said, might be a net positive for Tennessee as honestly the kid kind of sucked.

Tell me about it. I was so pissed when I heard about this and then so happy when UT said bye bye. I think him and his old man wayyy overstepped with major repercussions. Oregon already told him to take a hike.

There was a lot of work behind and front of the scenes to get those kids finally paid and this turd exposes it. In the mean time making the NCAA look smart for not doing it for as long as they did. What a pos.

Cant have kids acting like Pros in college ball.

Some other QB gets signed to more money than you, Are you going to hold out mid season?

Wonder if they already have an offer that was over his current deal or if the Nico camp overplayed their hands?

Being trying to follow this.

Is the question...... why pay college kids to play football ?

I guess I will need to look this up to understand what's going on.

He wasn't the first, he won't be the last... QB Carson Beck left Georgia for Miami before the vol qb holdout... Picked up 4m for hitting the transfer portal... player contracts will soon be coming to a D1 university near you!

Unfortunately it hasn’t been the same for some time now.

I was listening to Rick Neuheisel on College sports radio and he thinks in the near future the boosters are going to get fed up with forking money over to kids who enter the transfer portal at the end of the season to get more money. He predicts at some point the boosters are going to tell the AD’s if we are giving kids money then we want them singing a contract for two or three years. I’ve been listening to Ricks show for years and everything he has predicted would happen has pretty much happened.

I think they overplayed their hand, but we will see.

You can't talk politics here but since all but less than 10 programs are really in the red, the overall health of the financial picture at universities over the next few years is sure to impact this whole new world. You can't bleed like they're bleeding now forever.

You have 2 options:

1. The West Virginia way: get rid of math, science, and humanities at your university in order to support football
2. TOO OBVIOUS TO STATE

Because they generate massive revenues over and above the value of their scholarships

All the kid is doing is taking advantage of a system which was put in place to compensate collegiate athletes.

I take no issue with athletes trying to make as much money as possible.

As it is in the NFL, some players are more shrewd than others. Time will tell if he is being too shrewd.

Sing along now to the classic Cyndi Lauper "Money Changes Everything." The scary part is if you can dredge up the beat.

This…the NCAA didn’t think the whole NIL thing through and really screwed up. What you mentioned is probably the only realistic way to fix it. Make these kids sign an ironclad 3yr contract with no wiggle room to renegotiate.

The boosters’ motto should be, “if we pay…you stay”.

That’s kind of what Rick was saying. If I were a booster I’d be mad to that we pay the kids and then some leave in the next portal for some more money, it’s not always a lot more.

What a surprise the NCAA didn’t think a decision through. LOL!

Agree 100%.

Needs to go both ways as well. Need to think about it more but over that term, I don't think teams can't "cut" players/revoke scholarships/NIL $ because of injury, performance, etc.

What I think will happen is that schools/teams will make NIL money into 2-3 year contracts reducing or eliminating the jumping to another school for a better deal.
..

High School compensation is new to this chaos, but reviewing a lot of NCAA highly rated football players for the upcoming draft some have been to 2-3 schools during their college years. As a fan it is tough to follow a team when the players are choosing to change sides...
Locally our Providence College BB, a traditional Big East power, has lost most of its players for next season, a real challenge for coaching as every year you have to figure out how to get these new players to play together..
I cannot imagine being a coach through this much change to create a team and so much effort to recruit.. a Sisyphean task for sure.
What ever happened "Be true to your school"????
