Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

I want a backup who understands that he is still not close to being a starting QB in the NFL and is open to learning and developing his craft until he earns that opportunity to start. Milton feels he deserves a chance to compete for Maye's job, when he needed to be focused on earning the QB2 spot first. He's got a big head for a 6-year college QB who still struggles with his progressions and with throwing with touch and accuracy. And a Week 18 highlight against a tanking Buffalo team isn't enough evidence to the contrary.

People want to compare Milton to Brady so bad just because they were 6th round draft picks by the Patriots, when they are nowhere close to the same player even as college prospects.

I am not comparing Brady to Milton other than the fact they both wanted to become starters

You want a Hoyer, a guy happy being a #2 and no threat to the starter

I welcome the best player available for the job & I did not have a problem with Brady
Starting over Bledsoe in the Super Bowl because Brady got us to the playoffs

You sound like a guy who would want Bledsoe because he was the top paid QB

You 100% tried to compare Brady to Milton and assumed we'd all just let it sit there while you imparted you vast wisdom on us. Gimme a break.

Only a 5th rounder. Dang I think his potential is higher than that. Heck Cowboys even get a 7th rounder back so it's a pick swap.

Our brass really doesn't value Milton that much? At the very least he's a backup on a very cheap 7th rounder contract that had 3 more years of control left.
This is exactly what Bruschi was referring too.

MFers at Gillette that cant pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel.

There are reports on X from @savagesoorts_ that say the Patriots turned down better offers, but decided to send Milton where he wanted to go

Not sure what they offered, but I would love to know what they turned down

While you want a backup who knows his place ….

Go get Hoyer

You went from comparing Milton to Brady, to comparing Maye to Bledsoe, and neither scenario is remotely close as you're describing it.

Brady got drafted, started his rookie year as the 4th QB on the roster, worked his way up to the backup role. Only started because Bledsoe got injured, but he earned his spot and kept it and I was 100% on board for it. Brady showed more film than a final week performance against backups. The offense looked much better with Brady than it had with Bledsoe. I have two eyes and I could see Bledsoe had been declining and only got worse after signing his record-breaking contract in 2000.

Maye is not a QB in his 9th season in the league and showing signs of decline. He's an ascending young talent who is leagues better than Milton and I laugh at anyone who believes Milton was even a threat to Maye's job. There isn't a single thing Milton does better than Maye other than throwing an orange 100 yards.

Because he'll be throwing more, he may throw more picks in 2025 but I'm pretty confident his INT % will decrease. He threw a pick once every 34 pass attempts which is not great. If he can get to 10 INTs for 500 attempts that would be spectacular.
I’m confident he will be just what we need but there is a slight chance he could be one of those QB’s that turn the ball over. This whole topic is for training camp. LOL!

It is nice to laugh… I laugh at people who believe a backup QB needs to know his place.

So many experts in this forum

A couple years ago a couple of the koolaid drinkers went to Ian before the 2022 season & wanted me banned for saying the Patriots receivers were not in the top 20 teams

Ian is smarter than they are & the Patriots ended up ranked 31st that season

Milton grew up a huge Cowboys fan ...

I think fans should be happy for him ....
Right now he backs up Dak if he shows ability of course.

Cassel, Mallett, Jimmy, Stidham, Zappe, Cunningham and now Milton... amazing how many Tom Bradys the Patriots could have had over the years. Lol

You should know better than to listen to the Kool-Aid drinkers. I, for one, am not listening to the Milton Kool-Aid drinkers. They were Malik Cunningham fans just two years ago. I'll let them get their panties in a knot over him getting traded. They're the same as the Trey Lance fanboys who wanted him to start in San Francisco and Dallas.

My comparison to Brady was only about their desire to be a starter

Do you also want a backup who “knows his place”?

That is what I was responding to….

I believe backups should push starters, while others believe backups “need to know their place”.

Would they have traded Brady so he wouldn’t challenge Bledsoe?

You think they could have done the deal without throwing in the 7th?

He was drafted in the 6th round. They got a 5th. His value appreciated and to close the deal they threw in a pick worth ~10 points or a player who has a 5% chance of making the Week 1 roster.
Given that most teams prefer to have 3 QB's, barring injury, he makes the team. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Has anyone, myself included, considered that Milton may not be able to run JMcDs offense fully? We all just assume he's gonna be legit after going against the Bills 3 string guys who were focused on the playoffs. Perhaps they determined he was not a good fit for the offense?
That could be but how did they come to that conclusion since the first time the team gets together in this new season is April 7th I believe.

I think that's a thing in the NFL with a player for pick swap... the player almost always comes along with a lower draft pick. Not sure why.
