Where Is The Sweet Spot For Us To Draft An LT?

No, not at all.

I'm "glossing" over the idea that first Wolf & co. thought Chuks Okorafor was the answer at left tackle, and then ignored the position in the draft. Afterwards we were told that the third round draft pick who played RT throughout college was going to be the fallback starter at LT, based on the information that he had taken a few reps at LT in practices.

The front office seemed to be overly focused on WR, with OT a distant afterthought. Doubled down on WR, didn't try hard enough or succeed in moving up from either 34 to a mid-late first round pick at tackle, or from 68 to late second round pick at tackle - and missed out on runs at the position twice.
You do realize that there were 3 or 4 OTs that played RT in college and played LT as a rook

From what I'm reading on the draft board, none of the WR are anything more than career backups other than Hunter.
I don't think that Tet is a career backup.

The analysis seems right on the rest.

I agree with Lazar.

Personally, I think taking a LT at 4 unless he is a generational talent is too high. Has nothing to do with arm length. And is Campbell that much better than any of the guys who might be taken late in the first or early second where the Pats could draft a LT with some maneuvering.

Except that in this draft there is no blue chip talent except Carter and Hunter. Any player you draft at 4 has a flaw. It isn’t a BPA draft. It is a position value draft.

Given the state of this team drafting Will Campbell make the most sense to me. It’s the last position we need to be an NFL offense. It’s less risky to me to draft LT at 4 and try to trade back up for a receiver than the other way around because if you fail in trading back up then you are screwed again without any LT

He's the best rated Left Tackle in the 2025 draft, full stop. No one's coming up for a trade, take what's there and move on. Big upgrade for a spot that's been unresolved for years. He's a Vrabel guy with a chip on his shoulder. PEEFECT....

At 4

There was rumbling for a few days that they could have messed up the measurement at the combine for everybody.

If all the pro day measurements come out longer it will give that validity.

But many people don't think Campbell can play tackle at the NFL level and ultimately will end up at LG. I don't know if he is much better option than trading back and picking up a tackle later in the first and getting another draft pick or two to address needs. I don't think you should draft a LT in the top 5. You certainly shouldn't be drafting a LG in the top 5 unless he is a sure fire HOFer. And the Pats may be drafting a guard at #4 if they take Campbell.

I think it is crazy to take a tackle that high when people don't even know if that will be his position in the NFL.

Trade down

Get the guy that was OT#1 before he got hurt (Simmon?)

Sign Tyron Smith

Profit

If Belichick was here he’d pick a ****ty WR from Rutgers at 4

jk calm down

please list all the players that Belichick drafted in the top 20. How many were failures? How many were NFL stars?

This should still be a consideration and would allow the drafting of BPA at 4 make sense.

I think it’s much higher than that. First of all most of these guys played left tackle in high school, and some defensive line as well. Then, when they get to college they either sit on the bench or play inside or at RT before graduating to Left Tackle as they get older. Unfortunately the Caeden Wallace experience has many here thinking that if a kid ever played RT then they are a RT for life.

Same wingspan, still measures 5 inches shorter than the average NFL OT.

Look at it this way:

.__arm---torso---arm--.
.___arm--torso--arm---.

Same length. Different cutoff point for arm/torso, which is subjective to the person measuring and is irrelevant.

It shows up in the scouting reports too: he has to compensate to the outside and makes himself vulnerable to inside moves. He'll be an awesome player and great locker room guy, just not at LT.

I don’t think wingspan matters.

The Patriots should trade for Brandon Aiyuk and draft Will Campbell just so they can put them side by side to show how ridiculous it is that Aiyuk’s wingspan is 2.5 inches longer despite him being 6 inches shorter.
