Patriots FA period assessment (so far)

Not true. Up to X, is me speculating and of course I understand there were "talks" behind the scene. They were not enough, and that's what Im arguing for

but there is nothing to argue anymore. Im not everyone in the forum, I dont spend my days reading what has and has not been said. It's your mistake for generalizing
At some point you cant offer more it goes beyond what is rational. They have too much to fix to pull a Bengals. But your right there is nothing more to argue because we will never know how those conversations went. Sorry I shouldn't have said everyone I should have said most.....my mistake.

No worries friend. Sorry to for elevating a bit too, but it's easy to forget, that for the most part, any user's interaction with a forum is unique. I have been down to road to have to defend my thoughts simply "Because it was already posted" too many times.

It is for FA LT.

You've seen this movie. Rosters are not yet set in stone. Guys get released. Cap casualties. A lot can happen between now and opening day. And... let's not pretend that this year's crop of FA LT's was full of amazingly talented players. Stanley was plan A, he never made it to FA. There's still bodies out there... and Robinson was just that. A body. You would have hated that guy.

You know that rosters are best built in the draft. They don't play tomorrow. Wait and see what happens. They roll out with Lowe at the top of the depth chart after camp, you can panic. Now? Nah. It's still a work in progress.

All good. We all want to see the team do well, or at least I think we all do

You don’t suck the day you figure out you suck, you suck the day you missed the opportunity to improve.
We had the ability to dramatically improve the LT position for money that will be left in the table any way.
Oh well maybe something could happen like last year when we starters out of waiver claims isn’t sound management practice

Robinson is not a dramatic improvement. You're giving in to hyberpole, man.

I agree that waiver claims is not sound management practice. Guys who are available in FA at the position of LT are essentially waiver claims you pay a lot of money for. If they were worth a ****, their teams would keep them. I get you want to upgrade. I do too. Let's upgrade with the right guy. Let's not ask them to overpay for a new set of problems. That's the part you're missing IMO. Robinson isn't worth the money. You exchange problems with Lowe for problems with Robinson, while overpaying for that privilege and introducing Robinson's questionable effort to the locker room. Let's not make this guy out to be the consummate professional, all-pro and future HoF. He comes with his own set of warts. They are just different warts than Lowe.

Robinson has started 101 games at LT and played at a level that got him franchised twice.
Lowe wouldn’t be on the field if the patriots didn’t exist.

Robinson is a clear upgrade. We have 70 MILLION. We didn’t spend to the cap last year and we aren’t going to this year.
Why settle for a liability at LT when you can afford to sign a better one at a cost that puts absolutely no limitation on you. We will go through the entire season with that cap space being unused. Stacks of cash in krafts vault don’t block anyone.

Cherry picking.

Vederian Lowe had 13 penalties. Cam Robinson had 13 penalties.
Lowe allowed 5 sacks in 502 pass block snaps. Robinson allowed 7 in 632.
Lowe allowed 5 hits, Robinson 7.
Total pressures allowed: Lowe 33, Robinson 52.

That is not a clear upgrade.

PFF grades, taken with a grain of salt, Robinson grades out slightly better pass/run, 70.4/59.9 for Robinson, 66.9/45.8 for Lowe. That could be viewed as a minor upgrade if you like/care for PFFs grading.

Robinson is likely a slight upgrade over Lowe for a substantial investment in capital, which you so desperately want them to part with. He's not worth the money, especially when you take into consideration his Trent Brown-like proclivities.

Joe Noteboom is probably a slight upgrade in the run game, but not great in the passing game, while likely costing a fraction of the money.

PFF ugh.
Lowe is rated 102 in PFF. That means every team on average has 3 bettter Ts and some have 4. He is ranked 134/141 in run blocking. If you trust PFF.

Noteboom omg are you actually Elliot Wolf? Noteboom is horrendous.

Quite possible.

I think they did as well as they could have given that many targets did not view pats as a choice destination.
Only 2 difference makers in Williams and Davis, other signings are mostly average

B-

So improving and winning isn’t really important to you?
We are done here as well, Andy. We are just going around in circles.

My thoughts are this.... We had a bunch of money and still have a good amount. Yet somehow the things we needed to improve the most on we have failed to do almost entirely. If we believe Maye is the future of the franchise the main goal should be protecting him this year and trying to give him decent weapons so he doesn't need to hold onto the ball and extend plays as much. We've pretty much failed both things to this point.

We sign a Center that is a starter but not a good one. IF he was good his old team would have kept him. This isn't to say having him is as bad as having a JAG... it isn't... But there were better centers out there and we settled for the one who was the lowest level starter. We signed a IOL back up, which is good and all, but doesn't help the starters. We so far have failed to land a starting caliber LT and right now there is one decent option left in Tyron Smith... and if we don't sign him we need to hope we can trade or a rookie can do the job. And you can't always make a trade happen.

As for WR we've gotten a STer who is good enough to be a 4th or 5th option... which we have plenty of. The only offensive signing we've made that is a significant upgrade is Morgan Moses. But there is time left yet. If they get out of FA signing Tyron Smith for LT and Diggs for WR and are able to do well in the draft i'll quickly sing a different tune.

But for now we have to ask ourselves how important it is having an improved D if Maye gets a few more concussions and seriously injured this year behind a bottom 5 OL again and with no WRs to bail him out of it. These are very fair concerns to have. I know we don't play game 1 for months and months yet... but every day that goes by without this situation getting improved limits options and makes it harder to improve the situation.

I believe Vrabel knows what he's doing for the most part, but i imagine this is not the ideal spot they hoped to find themselves in at this point in the process.

And we will continue to as long as you are against improving the team because there isn’t a game tomorrow.

That's the dumbest **** you've said yet. Maybe Ever. Of course I am not against improving the team. Think about what you're typing instead of just trying to argue.

Here's your opportunity to get the last word in... ready? Go.

I’m just repeating what you said. I said we need to improve a terrible LT situation and you said we don’t have a game tomorrow.
For some reason you treat krafts money like it’s your own and are more concerned with overpaying that having a quality team, when the money will sit unspent all year.
It’s really a bizarre attitude to have as a fan.
