Player Signing OL Wes Schweitzer Signs With Patriots

There’s good starters still out there, players with upside. An undersized backup just makes fans think the front office is doing something, it doesn’t improve the team.
I agree that there are still good players out there (Teven Jenkins) is the guy I want, but I also realize that the FO and coaching staff know more about him than I do. I want to see them do certain things, but my wants are based off seeing the guys on Sunday and that is a drop in the bucket compared to the guys running the team this offseason.

We would prefer a Tackle.
One snap played...

Seems like a guy they could've gotten in a couple of months..weird.

Do the Patriots have a Tevin Jenkins Allergy?
He's bounced around a lot between positions. It seems he settled in at LG but still limited sample size there. Very concerning injury history.

My guess is he wants to parlay the optimism around him based on last year into a multi year deal whereas a lot of teams might still want to see him do it again. I suspect a lot of teams want to offer him a 1 year deal, probably us included, before committing to him because it might not stick for him at LG over the long term.

31 year old from the Jets. Only played 1 snap last year. 6' 4", 300lbs.

Schweitzer has previously played Center and both guard positions. He'll be battling the other interior linemen such as Ben Brown, Jake Andrews, and Cole Strange for a roster spot.

Not a bad signing, but better not be the solution. He hasn’t played very well since 21 or so.

Jag… why throw good money away?

Was there guaranteed money?
The Pats need a guy who can back up at multiple positions on the interior.

He's the new Nick Leverett / James Ferentz.

Personally, I'd have preferred Matt Peart over Schweitzer and Moses.

He's likely signed to compete to be the primary back-up at OC/OG. The new James Ferentz, if you will.

You think all the IL on the roster are better than him?

It will remain to be seen if he's better than Jake Andrews, Ben Brown, Lecitus Smith or Cole Strange. Schweitzer has experience. As I mentioned, he's likely the new James Ferentz..

And i know we all want Tackle help, but it isn't like we didn't need someone like to to compete for this spot. So i will say not 'boo! not a tackle!' I will boo if we don't sign a decent one before the draft though... cause i don't want a rookie LT. I don't want to be in the position of Hunter or Carter being on the board... and us feeling like we need to pick an OT or risk Maye getting destroyed.
This is my concern. We we heading down a path where the 3 teams ahead of us pretty clearly need a QB and it’s becoming likely two of them will pull the trigger on them and one of the two blue chip players are going to fall into their lap and they’ll pass on them for a guy who **maybe** can play tackle. Ugh.

Probably. Do you spend 20m to get a marginally better player?

Oh, he is asking for 20M?

OK....move on folks, nothing to see here....

Oh I have no idea, but that seems to be the vet LT price range. I literally pulled it out of thin air.

That would be both smart and prudent. I'd certainly give Jenkins a one year deal (given his talent and age). And if he stays healthy and takes care of his body, and is totally committed to the program, then they can extend him (if it's reasonable).

My first thought wasn't can he start. My first thought was is he better than Ben Brown?

He was the Jets primary back-up at C/OG last year. A place the Jets didn't have any injuries at. Not recognizing that and posting stupid GIF speaks volumes about you.
