I could see a two LB of Bentley and Spillane and I'm hoping Dugger is that box S acting as a 3 LB.

PFF FA Summary on him

Spillane was a top-five linebacker in snaps played and total tackles in 2024, with a strong 87.3 PFF run-defense grade. He's at his best coming downhill and can get picked on in coverage when he has to backpedal or sharply change direction, but five interceptions over the past two years is nothing to scoff at. Over the past two seasons Spillane's 114 solo tackles, 66 stops and 21 tackles for loss or no gain against the run are all top-10 marks among linebackers, and he's the only linebacker in the top 15 of any of those categories with a missed tackle rate of 5% or lower.
One thing is the Pats will be playing a lot of zone so one on one Spillane won’t be doing as much of it. Not sure how he grades out in zone coverage.

Cap hits by year (assuming no void years) looks like:

2025 - $9.0M (lower if some incentives/roster bonus NLTBE)
2026 - $14.0M (lower if some incentives NLTBE)
2026 - $14.5M (lower if some incentives NLTBE)

This looks like another 2-year dressed as a 3-year.

The Lions sat in Cover 1 and Cover 3 more than 2/3rd of the time last year....but that was Aaron Glenn.

We have Davis and Gonzo now but they aren't putting those guys in zone a ton. I suspect we'll do a lot of Cover 1

All Spillane will need to do is sit in the middle and read the action. Based on the INTs and PBUs he is pretty good at that.

I feel super dumb right now, are we talking about the Mobster or the writer?
Mickey Spillane the writer.

I don't think there is a mobster named Mickey Spillane. You might be thinking about Mickey Cohen the boss of the LA mob.

Eh, depends on level of play. It'd be hard to move on from him in year 2 so he's probably locked in for 2 years. (Probably could trade him this time next year if he flops hard, but then why would someone else want him for his guaranteed $8.3M salary and up to $11M with incentives/playtime bonuses).

In year 3, team will essentially have to decide if he's worth a 1 year, $11.5M deal. That's the part of the cap hit they could get out of by waiving him. It's not a crazy number if he's still a starter. Not a lock he'll be here for that 3rd year but I wouldn't call it a "dummy year" either.

I mean, I'll be more specific. Basically these 3 years they've been signing are really 2 years + a team option.
