Mavs/Lakers Trade - Luka for Davis

He led the Mavs to the NBA finals last season when they probably had no right to make it so far. Does that not count for something?

You are making him out to be a scrub which is insane.
That's probably fair. He's a top 10 NBA guy thats true. But people seem to make him out to be all that and he isn't. I just think it's hard to win titles with a guy like that, who gets hunted mercilessly on the defensive end and then his offense sputters as he gets gassed.

The Heat made it to the NBA Finals the year before last and were awful last year. Fluky stuff happens.

Wish people would do a modicum of research first.

Report: 1 Team Rejected Mavs' Luka Dončić Trade Nearly 2 Weeks Before Lakers Deal

I am more than surprised that supposed basketball fans here that watch generational Luka sucking wind in every second half of the finals games are shocked he didn't get a bigger haul. Yet they have a dude in their own backyard this is a hell of a lot more generational than he is, and Tatum isn't even that. Close, but not it.

Luka is a fat, out of shape loser that doesn't have the dedication to be an even average defender. He can't really move good enough laterally without the ball on D to make it work. The Harden comp is perfect because that is exactly who is he is. The Euro version of Harden, who I think sucks as well.
I read some things and didn’t see that report. I think that’s a modicum, not sure though.

OK, you’ve made your position clear that Luka is a bum who will never do anything for the Lakers. I guess we’ll see. I hope you’re right because I hate the Lakers.

The so called national media keeps wanting to tell us that this was a rip off by the thr Lakers. That is just BS. For a minimum of 2-3years Dallas will have the upper hand, before we see LA "potentially" getting the lead.

Davis was the major reason LA has been in the limited contention they've had in resent years and the major reason they won in the 2020 astirck year.

LA has NO shot a doing anything this season and will be looking to make a championship ride in 26 with a 42 yr old LeBron as their #2

Listen, Luka is a tremendous player and an offensive marvel, but it is hard to win championships when the opposition can beat you just by running their offense right at Luka and score a lot of points AND wear him out

Well the Celtics were able to. A historically good team and offense with highly athletic superstars wings and guards.

It was Luka and TD Garden-Kyrie against one of the most stacked teams in league history. And Luka was playing injured.

Just saying that ANY playoff contender in the west with a better defense than the Lakers will have a distinct advantage over the Lakers, in a playoff series. Right of the top of my head, OKC, Minn, and Denver all pop of the top of my head as distinctly better defensive teams. Nothing to do this year, since whatever gains you get from Luka, you lose because of Davis who STILL is a top 3 big man who scores rebounds and defends at top level. The Lakers will first have to get an immediate legit big man, and even Polenka said that there aren't any out there this coming off season. And developing big men from scratch takes 3-4 years if you are lucky to hit on one.

Labron will reach the point where even HIS remarkable body will start to take its toll. Christ he'll be in his 41-42nd year. Don't tell me you haven't noticed the slippage in Al's 39th year. Time is undefeated and it's coming for Labron SWIFTLY

Now go back further to 5 years down the road and assuming he is healthy and still interested, the advantage shifts to the Lakers as Luka gets into his late 20's and early 30's and Davis exits the stage, but we live in a recency bias world. We aren't going to be patient waiting for the Pats to grow over time, neither are Lakers fans going to want to wait 5 years to see another championship arrive.

AND btw, there is no guarantee that Luka even sign with LA after next season. He will be free to sign for the Max with ANYONE next year and a completely unrestricted FA (as I hear it). Something he can't do now

AD is wrong side of 30 and injury prone himself. Mavs need to acquire someone like KD to really make an NBA title a realistic possibility down there and to make this trade make sense.

As a Lakers fan, I don't think Luka will be enough. For some reason, LeBron continues to put up empty stats that has little impact since he's been in the Western Conference. He's also extremely high maintenance expecting everyone on the team to shoot 40% from 3 point range.

Kobe/Shaq and Kobe/Gasol carried a pretty bad supporting cast throughout their runs. This new era of the NBA is so high maintenance it's unwatchable.

So, are we all still feeling confident this was a fair trade for both side, forum?

So the Mavs announce that they're jacking up ticket prices and that night, Kyrie Irving blows out his knee and is out for the season.

The Mavs screwed this up so badly... It's comical.

As I said when the "trade" was first announced, this was a gift from the NBA to LeBrick and the Lakers. Their winning streak since tells me that it's working.

This is the most ridiculous trade ive ever seen, in any american sport, and im barely exaggerating

Since then to me its clear that the Mavs new owner is in fact sabotaging the team to go to Vegas

Seems like a trend in the Us, tbh

What on earth is Dallas thinking with this trade? I don't get this one at all. Yes, the Mavs needed a defensive stopper but not at the cost of the league's leading scorer last year. On top of that, Davis is 31 whereas Luka is only 25. That right there is enough reason to NOT make this trade.
They're thinking they don't want to pay 360+ million to a guy who's never in shape and plays less defense than a traffic cone.

So then trade him for comparable value, not the trade they did. The Mavs should have gotten much more than what they got here.

Lakers went from a play in to #3 seed. Trade worked out great.

I thought the Lakers were going to take down the Celtics last night early in the game. Lakers had to lose a game eventually.

Hope they meet in the Finals.

Did you actually watch how the Cs worked him over last night? I'll go on record and say they win nothing with him unless they find another LeBron or Davis.. And probably not even then. He'll go along great in the regular season getting his gaudy stats and then lose when he runs into the iron in the playoffs.

It just plain stinks.

The Mavs wanted to get rid of Doncic so they settled for an older, broken down player? I'm simply not buying that. This was a trade made by the NBA in order to help LeBrick. Somewhere down the road the Mavs owner will get a gift from the NBA for participating.

And all they could get was a broken down, 5 year older player? No way. This was a gift to the Lakers and LeBrick, the NBA's favorite team and player.
