Offseason player acquisition thread

He probably won’t get the same money due to coming off an injury, but he’s a better player and also a far better locker room leader. If he actually hits the market I’d definitely be in on him.
There are reports Vrabel likes him for his leadership and toughness.

Yeah he would be a great add. Even if he gets healthy he might not be a true top end “WR1” but he’s very good. They’d need to figure out the X position still, but suppose Boutte/Polk/Baker can battle for that in the meantime.

I heard on a podcast this week that Vrabel likes Baker and has been building a relationship with him already. A little surprised by that one, I guess he must like the confidence.

Sounds like Godwin is not going to be tagged. Would he be looking for a similar contract that Ridley got last year?
He can look, but he's not getting it here.

As a Pats fan discussing improving the wide receiver room, I don’t think beggars can be choosers.

Our receiving room has been bad for a while, if they can realistically add Kupp, Aiyuk or Godwin then that seems like the best possible option based on what’s available. Sure they are recovering from injuries but they also provide the best chances to improve the position.

On tackle, Ronnie Stanley would be great but Cam Robinson is an upgrade at OT. I think it’s a mistake to depend on the draft for your starting left tackle, and I’d only want them to draft a left tackle if they trade back into the 6-12 range. If Cam Robinson is the only starter level addition at tackle the Pats should try to draft one or two more in the 2nd - 4th rounds.

Based on the players available in free agency the only position I’m confident they can fill is #2 corner. The DT, edge, rb, and TE positions should be targeted in the draft rather than free agency because of the strength of the class.

Cam Robinson last season was just as bad as Lowe I believe when you look at the numbers.

I don't think Scar in his Prime could Coach up that Garbage Vederian Lowe: and Scar was one of the Best OL Coaches in the business. Yeah VeGarbage Lowe is that bad.

Nobody here is talking about this Guy in FA at a critical spot Mekhi Becton. Jets Drafted him to be their Franchise LT: he got Great Coaching in Philly and is now a Solid Guard. I think he could be a one of those versatile guys Becton is still very young. The Colts have serious $$$$$$ lined up for him.

I’m not saying he is Lowe just going by what the numbers suggested.

Sometimes the numbers lie: I've watched him get beat by some good ones...but I see him provide good Protection too a good OL Coach like D Marrone should get much out of him.

Grab him and hurt a division rival. Grab DJ Reed too and our secondary would be set.

The Pats do need a true free safety who can play over the top. He is a need. And even the top safeties do not get paid that much relatively. So his price will not eat too much into the cap to prevent the Pats from signing other top free agents.

From the quick research I've done on Hubbard, it seems like he's a better version of Anfernee Jennings but he's going to be 30 and has struggled a bit with nagging injuries in recent years. Not sure he's really the profile of DE we should be targeting right now. We need actual pass rushers. Jennings is a run down type of specialist and White is better served rushing from the inside. Not saying Hubbard can't bring incremental improvement, but just not what I'd look for as a top target.

Hubbard is 28 currently and turns 29 on June 23rd.. He's a back-up Edge guy..

What was Belichick's statement about DBs who have issues tackling???

Who's our back up edge guy?

I keep saying we pretty much need to consider everything.

Reed doesn't tackle? Maybe try for Ward instead then. Or just bank on Hunter which is who I want most anyway.

I honestly don't know. With the Pats moving to a 4-3 Under situation which is kinda what Belichick was using the last 3 years, I don't know what Vrabel/Williams plans are for the D-Line. Especially with them giving Godchaux permission to find another team.

If the Pats move to Bigger ends like having White and Barmore out there with 2 bigger DTs in the middle, then that pushes Jennings back to OLB.

For the D-Line, I've been pushing Bobby Walker from the Rams because he's good to very good against the Run and the Pass so I think he'd fit in well to improve the defense. I'm not a Milton Williams fan because he sucks against the run, but he's an excellent pass rushing guy. So I can see how he fits with Vrabel wanting the Pats Defense to have an aggressive style.

The Pats have some decent subs in Jaquelin Roy and Jeremiah Pharms, but their positions are in no way guaranteed. No idea what they have in Jotham Russell, Eric Johnson and Marcus Harris.. Also have no idea if Ximenes and Truman Jones will be at DE/Edge or OLB.

My response was in regards to Jevon Holland. Not DJ Reed. I have Reed on my short list as a replacement for Jon Jones in the Slot.

So if impending free agents that weren’t tagged today can still sign a long term deal before free agency kicks off right?
