Abdul Carter has stress fracture

So any examples of anyone in college football having this injury and then playing well in the pros ?
What is the % ratio ?
It seems to be a rare injury for college players so that alone is not good.

Ras I Dowling was basically healthy his first 3 years of college ball.
Stress fractures are incredibly common across all sports. Common football, basketball, soccer injury. Even teenagers get it. Both my kids have had it happen.

fair enough

The open question for Vrabel is whether a top prospect with a question mark will be his pick.

I think not.
Even with a foot injury, I don't think the prospects under him lack question marks. Hunter's entire value is based on him being a two way player which isn't likely, Campbell has short arms, Graham is a lesser prospect in every way, and Tet until he runs a 40 is going to have some speed questions.

If we pick at 4 I think Carter is still the safe pick.

All i know is no matter what he will have the best doctors money can buy. I don't think this hurts his stock as much as some think. He should be good to go for camp if i am not mistaken. Unless something goes wrong... and if he drops to 4? Pick him. Take that risk if Hunter is gone. He may well be the best player in the draft... Are we suppose to pass on him if he falls to us?

I would suspect that the medical staff will hopefully do a thorough check on Carter's foot. If they determine (accurately) that it's a 'Nothing Muffin", and Carter is there at #4, not taking him would be a big mistake. By the way, I see a lot of similarities between Nic Scourton and Matthew Judon. I wouldn't take him in the 1st Round, but I would take him in the 2nd or 3rd Round (although I doubt he'll make it to the 3rd Round). I'd take Jayden Higgins in the 2nd Round, and then trade back into the 2nd Round to take Scourton or another player (like Josh Conerly Jr. or any player that could be a steal), who other teams seem to turn into stars from Rounds 2 through 4.

I heard that Abdul Carter uses recreational drugs and has a severe gambling addiction. Browns Titans and Giants should definitely stay away from such a questionable character.

Also heard he walked into a pet store and when he thought no one was looking gave the middle finger to all the puppies and kittens there and kept saying "Even if you could talk no one will believe you!' before walking out amongst much animal whimpering and sad sad eyes.

Please change thread title to “stress reaction”
Not a fracture

I apologize if I have a lack of respect for the abilities of our medical staff.

He won’t have surgery, and will more than likely be OK.

If he somehow falls to you at four consider it a blessing

I'm dubious about the medical staff as well. You would think that with all of the prestigious medical centers and specialist's in just the Boston area, that there would be no shortage of outstanding specialist's on the Patriots Medical Staff. The foot specialist that performed my ankle joint replacement was one of the Top 3 in the entire World, and he was here in Green Bay of all places (he retired last year and had been the Packers Foot Specialist for about 6 or 7 years before he retired). He's the one that Pro Athlete's of every sport, despite their own team's foot specialist's, would come to for the final opinion of whatever foot problem they had.

Well as long as he doesn't turn into a Dominique Easley, I guess this is fine?

Stress fracture is a common injury that usually fully heals, right? Question will be timeframe and would it cause him to miss training camp.

It's so important for rookies to get that first camp in and really absorb the system and playbook.

Stressing me out

I think his value is less about 2 way player and more about being the best prospect in the draft at either WR or CB.

If you think you can make the 2 way stuff work then that only ups his stock but the flip side is I'm sure some teams will see it like you and get scared off of the 2way stuff.

For me I just look at the 2way stuff as an indication of the freak athlete he is and then I keep it simple plug him opposite Gonzo and create a position of true strength on this team. If he can also give 10 plays on offense then bonus. (A large part of me does want to see him and us try iron man role but that's a conversation for after we draft him)

Imagine getting scared off of Bo Jackson because of the baseball stuff? No one might ever compare to the freak that was Bo so consider my point a little bit of hyperbole.

What are your overall thoughts on carter? I know you’re a penn state guy. Apologies if ive missed it but been interested to hear your take. Are you taking him if hes there at 4?

If he's there at 4 you take him. If you don't, you deserve to watch him succeed somewhere else and make you regret it for whatever you passed him up for.

Just because everyone else says so. LOL. He has dominated some guys, and other guys he hasn't. When he has your number, you're toast. Speed, good moves, consistent pressure. Then he gets stonewalled against some other guys.

If it's only a matter of consistency, I think he can learn to be more consistent.

The concern would be that he takes advantage of weak linemen and gets stone by really good ones.

Also, the Penn State DL had a lot of stars on it, a lot of guys you needed to pay attention to, like Sutton and Durant.

OLs couldn't really key on any one player.

That being said, too much is made out of the lower production from Carter the prior year. He had Chop Robinson and another top senior in front of him.

So... is he a gamble? Yes. Are DEs notorious gambles this high? Yes. He's no more a gamble than Travon Walker or Kayvon Thibodeaux or Chase Young or Clelin Ferrell or Bradley Chubb or Solomon Thomas.

Only half these guys stayed with their draft teams.

I've also heard that he's named each of his toes and says good night to each of them by name before he goes to sleep.
I am out cuz that is weird. I cannot tolerate made up weirdness out of uncoachable kids. they all should not touch him. 38 is probably the earliest he should go.

hmmm

so 50% of getting good value

It seems like there may be players that are more likely to succeed than that.
