Offseason player acquisition thread

DPOY not just a big name.
Eagles already have #1 defense

Sam, it doesn’t matter who the player is. It takes many things to go right to win a Super Bowl. Saquon Barkley could blow a knee out, Hurts could get Hurts, or just throw a couple of picks at a bad time. A million things could go wrong, that’s why back to back is so hard to do. The Patriots had a 20 year Dynasty and only did it once.

What happened to strange being extended to a 3-year contract to be our starting center? But sure, if a center is BPA available then we will draft him.
I never suggested he be extended, let alone that he's proven to be a solid Starting Center. I did say that at some point in the draft that we should draft one.

Torn ACL IS REALLY a 2 Year injury IMHO, THEY'RE NOT normal after year 1, IDGAF what they say.
They are NOT NORMAL.

I know it is a different position, but Jamaal Charles tore his ACL in 2011 and rushed for 1,509 yards and 5 TDs in 2012.

Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL in 2013 and had 1318 yards and 10 TDs in 2014. Both were career highs.

Gronk tore his ACL and MCL in 2013 and had 1124 yards and 12 TDs in 2014. And his injury was in mid December.

Not every player bounces back the next year, but it happens.

And the Pats don't need Aiyuk to be 100% in 2024 if he can be a 1300 yard receiver again in 2025.

That’s a steal.
It is a steal and a perfect fit.
Washington’s offense is probably highest in the league in screens and short passes. Deebo can’t separate anymore so would struggle in a different offense but Commanders offense takes advantage of his best skills,

That’s a steal.
I look forward to all the posts criticizing Vrabel for not getting a deal done,

and also, all those posts that list all the reasons why Samuel should want to play for NE rather than WAS.

I don’t think he’s the right fit here.
Would I take him over Polk?
Yes do I want him as our 1 or our 2?
No

Deebo is just about done, i want the Deebo of 3 years ago not the Deebo of 2025.

He went for a 5th round pick cause he's always hurt now and has massively slowed down.

Why would the niners trade aiyuk less than one year after a monster extension? Also gonna trade both deebo and aiyuk??

Maybe this deebo trade provides a parameter of what a Kupp trade may look like.

I didn't want Deebo. Good deal for the Commanders though.

I would assume that means the 49ers aren't trading Aiyuk. I figured it was an either or situation unless they really are planning to blow it up and draft a WR.

They're gonna pay Purdy 50m big ones a year, someone has to go.

If Shanahan truly believes in him and his scheme more than the average fan then then he probably thinks he can draft a couple of WRs and his scheme will still move the football then he can pay money for OL and defense.

It is crazy that Purdy is likely to be the highest paid player in the NFL in a few weeks or months. He isn't that good. He is good enough to be good when he has a great situation. The 49ers might be better off signing Sam Darnold and trading Purdy. Darnold has shown he can be great in a near perfect situation (at least until the playoffs).

I am starting to be convinced that when drafting a QB that you are better off him being a bust than him just being good to very good. You gotta pay through the nose for "just being good to very good" when contract time comes around.

I agree. $27M for Samuel or sign help and draft a couple of wide receivers seems right to me.

Your right it's never been done before in NFL. What was I thinking
OK, I shouldn't make fun. Obviously, it is POSSIBLE that we might find a GM stupid enough to make such a trade.

I don't understand this either. I don't understand the NFL.

Did Aiyuk sign a contract with no guarantees?

EDIT: the Aiyuk contract has a $23m signing bonus. It may or not activate on 4/1/25. Or that might be a second signing bonus.
