Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

Tee Higgins was the 33rd overall when he was originally Drafted. I think he more than lived up to his Draft billing. Let's hang on to #38 Hof selection.

I'd give up the 38th overall pick straight up for Higgins if the Pats only had to pay him what the Bengals paid him over the duration of his rookie contract ($32 million total for five seasons).

I'd make Higgins the highest paid WR in the NFL in terms of guaranteed money if the Pats could hang on to the 38th overall pick and use it to address one of the many other positions this teams needs to improve on.

I'm not willing to do both because Higgins isn't worth that. If the Bengals do franchise tag him, and he gets moved for a 2nd rounder (or better) and gets extended for $30+ million per season, I'll be shocked. I just don't see it happening.

I want a WR that can make our Young QB Better: we saw what WR's did for Goff - Darnold and Love.

Yeah this is the thing. If we were only a Tee Higgins away from being a Super Bowl contender, I'd say to hell with it and do the overpay. This would be in a scenario in which we have a stacked roster already and are just needing an extra piece. We wouldn't miss the draft pick then. But nearly every position on the team is lacking and needs improvement. This team needs to draft more and draft better. The best teams in the NFL today are supported by a core of players that they drafted themselves for the most part. Christian Gonzalez is an elite corner. Drake Maye has the upside of a future NFL MVP candidate if all things come together. Brendan Schooler is the best special teams ace in the NFL. Bryce Baringer is one of the NFL's top punters. Everyone else on the roster is replacement level or worse.

I am not against Drafting a Rookie WR's as long as we don't evaluate them like BB did.

Yes.

By hanging on to the 38th pick, you have another roster spot on a rookie contract under your control for 5 years. That allows you to sign players like the WRs you covet so much.

Just because you have a raging blue steel hard-on for the guy doesn't mean they should give up premium picks AND overpay.

Higgins for catching difficult passes so Maye doesn't have to worry

Slayton for the deep threat

Douglas for handling the middle of the field, Boutte would be an excellent WR4 option

We have an abundance of cap, not picks. Even if we dont get Higgins, we could get 2 guy in a tier lower, and that would be arguibly for the best

I don't want to trade any of the high value picks for the privilege of overpaying him. I'd rather take a plan B FA. If I am trading for a guy, and I am giving up 4 or 38, then the guy needs to be Jefferson, Lamb or Chase.

The Bengals will only be trading him because their back is to the wall in negotiations, don’t be the loser franchise that lets them off the hook.
