Would taking DT Jonathan Allen clean up the draft trade possibilities?

Nah. even if we got Allen I'd still take Carter or Graham if they fell there. At least we could feel good that we have a rush going into the season

What is their thought process here?
Save the cap for Higgins or Metcalf?

Not sure what the comp would be. Good player but recently hurt, 30 years old, and on the more expensive side while also probably seeking a new deal. It would be a good pickup though, at least short term... I wouldn't necessarily rule out any player at 4 just because he was here, "the more the merrier" really, especially while Barmore's status is up in the air.

Fair points.

I would give up 4th Rounder for him he can get to the QB.

Not sure that adding him would or should have any impact on the draft possibilities. The potential pick's place on the roster most impacted would be Mason Graham. I guess having Barmore/Allen/Godchaux and then adding Graham is a bit heavy on investment at DT.

BUT... Allen would be 30, coming off injury and in the last year of his deal. Godchaux would be 31 with 2 years left, but a contract set up to move on from next year. Barmore is coming back from blood clots. That's a spot where you can rotate 4 guys through as well so it's not like you can't play them all.

DT would still absolutely be a long term need probably as soon as next year since I think Godchaux will be gone, especially if they add another older guy like Allen. Even Allen becomes more rotational piece than standout as he ages, so it's a starter level need next to Barmore (who is a question mark himself).

With the Barmore situation he would be good to have: until we can groom another young DT. Jonathan Allen - Masson Graham more than make up for the potential loss of Barmore. IF Barmore returns D-Line is now a Strength.

still have Godchaux on the roster as well
Allen will want an extension that Washington apparently not willing to give.

And we are Loaded a match made in...

Thoughts on pick up Allen for a 4th best case, 3rd worst, trade down to 6-9 grab BPAON (thinking Campbell, maybe McMillan) and possibly (don't have a points chart available) pick up a 2nd this year and something else next year?

trading down with NO using #4 traded for #9 and #40 works on the draft value chart

I wouldn't give up any serious draft pick or picks for him for the reasons that you stated. His age alone should make that null and void. Especially in a draft that is strong on the DL (especially DT and Edge). I'd rather spend the money on a young FA DL and address it also in the Draft.

NFL teams surprise me sometimes, but I don’t see any reason he should have trade value. He missed a bunch of time, didn’t play well when he was on the field, and is due $17M at a position of strength in this free agency class. He’s probably getting cut and then signing somewhere for maybe ⅓ of what he’s currently due on his existing contract.

Our 4th rounder is too much for a 30 year old coming off an injury but would be happy to trade last years 4th rounder (Baker) for him LOL

Do not trade anything better than a 6 or 7 for him. His salary is $22,352,941 and dead cap is $6,000,000. Washington saves $16,352,941 regardless if cutting or trading. He is the perfect cut candidate. If traded, we will demand big $$$, and won't sign an extension for what he is actually worth. He would be a one year rental. If he hits the open market, he will realize teams are not willing to pay him what he wants at 30 years old and often injured. Then he is a good candidate for a free agent signing.
