Offseason player acquisition thread

As far as Player Acquisitions are concerned, how many of you would trade Stevenson to another team even if they only gave you a late round pick, but it not only took most of his contract, but they signed A.J. Dillon instead (who's 3 months younger and a FA)? I'm just curious as to what folks on here would think about that.
sign a top RB FIRST, and a I am fine with trading Stevenson, likely just before the draft.

Harris does stand out.

I think Stevenson is highly replaceable and Gibson has shown himself to be at the VERY least equal if not better. It's why RB's don't get paid. You can find a Stevenson equivalent to get that production somewhere in the 4th round.

I think we need to ask ourselves why the Rams, who are good cap shape, would be willing to let Alaric Jackson walk. He wasn't a good athlete leaving college, shades of Okorafor... played a lot but not very well.

As far as left tackle versus right tackle, if they get athletic bodies into camp they can work it out. Better coaching, better scheme. They need to do their homework on all these free agents, see where their health and heads are at.
In my mind, so it could just be me creating a narrative. He can absolutely be upgraded by the Rams and probably priced himself out of LA. He is not a good athlete, but is a mauler so not ideal for the Rams offense it seems. I disagree with you about him not playing well unless you were specifically referring to Chuks.

He was put on IR with blood clots in Nov 2022 but started 15 games in 2023 and 14 in 2024. Imo he played really well in 2023 and 2024. I think that he is arguably better than what we will get in the draft, mostly because he has done it against NFL competition.

Patriots fans right now have a serious problem with permanently giving up on their own disappointing players while seeing other teams’ disappointing players as reclamation projects.

I wouldn't say a serious problem giving them up....its not knowing who we can get to replace them with...we are in a chicken and the egg situation....need talent to bring in FA talent, but cant get said talent since we have no talent (as of now)...

We can get talent, we just have to pay a lot for it. The biggest problem with this franchise and fanbase in general is that too many people are cosplaying as Bill Belichick thinking we are mid dynasty and trying to get value deals and not do overpays when right now we just need warm bodies to get off the runway. If we have the option to get a decent player, we just have to get them and not screw around worrying about if it's the best deal.

I was merely asking a question. By the way, Randy Moss was considered a disappointing reclamation project when he was traded for by the Patriots. That worked out pretty well overall. Even so, if they get rid of Stevenson, I'm good with that.

I'm good with them drafting two RB's in the upcoming draft (although one RB pick that turns out to be a gem would be nice to have).

In that case, we wouldn't trade Stevenson until late in Training Camp.

I think they can get one of the top LT’s, and could get their RT in the draft, or possibly Jack Conklin if Cleveland releases him for cap space, which has been reported as under consideration, and Conklin lives Vrabel. And they can definitely get a guard in the draft, if they don’t like the ones they already have. imo they have too many needs to be signing a position that isn’t a serious need.
I fundamentally disagree with your last point. You say they have too many needs to worry about ones that aren't "serious". I translate that to the opposite... they have so many needs that their roster is a blank slate as far as I'm concerned. Again, Maye and Gonzo are the only players I can confidently say I'm happy to think about starting here in 2 years. The roster is in total shambles and the "serious need" they have is being able to say they have more than 2 players they're excited about the prospect of being starting players here in 2 years. I mean genuinely EXCITED at the idea of them starting here. If that's a LT, great. If it's a guard, that's fine too. Identify who those guys are and sign as many of them as possible.

On Jackson... I don't think anyone is projecting that he's going to come in and be a HOFer, an all pro, or even a pro bowler. I think most people are pretty much just saying he can be a starting caliber LT for a few years because of youth and the fact that he's already played at that level for multiple years. And because LTs are so rare, it's extremely expensive for that bare minimum level of player. Most are just ok paying it because we have so much cap space, it's such a huge need, and the scarcity at the position means it's particularly useful to not be so desperate.

I'm not particularly opposed to it, I just don't see the point. We already need more RB depth. We should probably be looking to add at least one more guy, probably two. Sign someone like AJ Dillon and I still don't see the point of trading Stevenson. Event the savings we could get for signing an UDFA would be minimal in the grand scheme of things. For $4M, I'd gamble on one year of Stevenson's athletic prime over most of the other FA options, tbh.

We can't use 2024 against anyone on this team, including Owenu. Those coaches were lost and had not idea what to do on that line. Owenu was a good RT in 2023, and is now paid like one. I doubt Vrabel will put up with being out of shape.
Players admitted themselves they relaxed and didn't put forth as much effort as they could have.. even wolf saying that there will be less of a hard ass approach.. gonzo said himself who's an all pro as well as Jon Jones...

It showed up each week in games especially on defense. The coaches as you mentioned were are a collection of seemingly volunteers. Mayo was directed what to say and do as opposed to coaching. Anyhow as Vrabel Said everyone will have a clean slate.

The more I think about I believe the organization likes Rham.. but I just sense he will likely be moved. Gibson fits more into the style of back that can thrive under Josh... I also think they may sign another back or draft one.

I hope that they sign one who's still on the young side and accomplished AND draft two!

Me too and I believe that's probably where they go.. if they trade rham I'd like to get a pass rusher. Rham for the Gary in GB?

I understand that GB would give up Gary for a 5th Round Pick. Rham for Gary? Sure!!! And, give them a 5th in 2026 or a 6th this draft and a 5th next draft for Quay Walker as well. Reports around here are that GB doesn't want to (because of other concerns, financial and otherwise) to pick up Walker's 5th Year Option.

Perhaps you might know this better then me, but I understand that when they drafted Smith, he'd played LG in college. But becuase they already has Thuney at LG, they put him at RG. If true, he could totally play LG. I'm just reluctant to pay him and Onwenu that much money for two OG's. But, Onwenu could get traded after next season. Regardless, we NEED Alaric Jackson at LT!!! They'll sort the rest out for Maye's 2nd season and then beyond that.

Heck I think Trey Smith played Left TACKLE in college too!
