Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

No one knows for certain but several sources have come out and said that Vrabel is the man. Reiss and Curran are pretty plugged in.

I can never link to YouTube videos but Reiss and others have clips on there saying Vrabel has final say on personnel, and Wolf and Cowden will be working under him. All you have to do is google it. There is plenty documenting it.

There's a difference between 'Having final say on personnel' and 'being in charge of player acquisitions'. The second thing, that's not Vrabel's job, he's not scouring the waiver wire in between making game plans.

95% of player acquisition is in the offseason, so “ game plans” aren’t interfered with at all. And yes, he does make the final call on every player they bring in, that’s what final say means.

Higgins coming here is not a guaranTee

Higgins will chase the money. All the lip service of "I want to win" is nonsense.

Of course not. It's free agency, he will have many suitors.

But the Patriots do have cap space and the money to give him a lucrative offer. We're just going to hope that he's attracted to the idea of playing with Drake Maye and being our #1 wideout while being paid handsomely to do so.

New England isn't exactly an easy sell without TB12 and the constant Superbowl appearances we were having before.

Cold weather for one turns off many. But we'll see, money talks.

Not an easy sell that is for sure. It may be 3-5 years before this team can seriously compete for a Lombardi again.
In demand free agents will demand a premium to play in Foxboro

Climaxed.
Dude this is hilarious…..

Burrow isn’t going to let this happen.
That’s what l’m hearing too…..Burrow is doing the Brady and restructuring his contract so they can keep Higgins….so I expect them to get it done ….but it would be great if we could get him here!

What are you hearing about Mike Brown being willing to spend the up front cash spending a Burrow restructure, Chase extension and Higgins signing will cost him? Burrow isn't volunteering to take a pay cut, he's willing to do a cap friendly but cash taking restructure. Essentially he's volunteering to separate a notorious skinflint from a pile of his cash.

I saw somewhere the thing that will likely make that Bengals not be able to keep Higgins is because of the way they do contracts. They do not guarantee money beyond the first year. The only player they have ever guaranteed a second year of a deal is Joe Burrow. I think they will have to do that for Chase. Not sure that they will for Higgins though. The Bengals are notoriously cheap.

Yeah he’s been on a media tour banging the table to resign him

Oh well... if he's banging the table that should definitely loosen Mike Brown's purse strings. I mean that's almost up there with a strenuous objection...

Please let us know if Burrow volunteers to actually give up any money instead of volunteering to get paid more cash now which is what a 'restructure' would really mean

But Brady restructured to keep mostly a strong "Middle Class" and one or two key players (usually one on offense and one on defense). They'll also have to pay Chase. That's two extremely high paid WR's (even with a "Hometown Discount"). But then, what about the OL/DL/LB's/Secondary? And they haven't yet won a SB (let alone multiple ones to attract players who are nearing the end but want a ring). It's an "Apples and Oranges" situation compared to what Brady did as the circumstances are different than Brady/The Patriots.

It’s proven that Brown is cheap but I suspect he knows which side of his bread is buttered. Looking up their cap space they are number 9 with around $48M.
