Patricia to Ohio State Final.

Dude, you are mean.
I'm blushing.

His style of defense may work better in college than the pros where the QB talent level isn't as high. I could see his patient style making young, inexperienced QBs panic.

I’m happy for him. I hope it works out for him and OSU falls to Bill O’Brien in the championship game this year.
Patricia's 2022 offense was statistically better than BOB's 2023 offense. Now Patricia is back at his natural position on D. If BOB lost the Matty P's offense, how can anyone think BOB can beat Matty P's defense?

On is own he has a lot to prove.
Steve Belichick took Washington's D in one year from 99 to 25 with no talent. When SB left for Washington we heard all the same things, "only in his Dad's shadow", "he has everything to prove", "he was a nepo hire", blah, blah, blah.

Now we hear the same chorus about Matty P. Do people ever learn?

Correct on Steve. In my mind he proved himself.

Matt has been at DET and PHI w/o BB and the Ds there got worse. Not all his fault but he didn't help.

I think he still needs to prove he can have success independently

My view on him has basically boiled down to - "smart guy who knows a lot about football, and was pretty solid as a coordinator while having the guiding influence of Bill Belichick above him, but is not an inherently good enough coach to do it without Bill."

Maybe he can do it at the college level, we'll see. Obviously he wasn't a good head coach and he didn't really do anything good in Philly, although his stint there was a little weird with his role being all over the place.

I don't really hold the Pats OC stuff against him because that was really Bill's call, Patricia was just doing what he was told. And it's not like BOB's offense the next year was any better, nor was AVP's the year after that, so there's that.

I think Patricia is a really good defensive coordinator, he’s just not a Head Coach.

I appreciate you overlooking my unbridled optimism that BC will get to the championship game in the first place against him and going straight to the matchup!

They’re both solid coaches. BOB seems to be off to a solid start at the heights and I think Matt will do some really good things at OSU. The Pats have been a train wreck for the past half decade, so I’m not judging either one by their most recent performance here.

DET is a fair comment. Matty P was at PHI for less than one year, hired late in the Spring as a def advisor and later called defensive plays for a few games - he was unrelated to PHI's defensive issues.

Six SB rings later, Josh McD still has to prove he can have success without BB as well?

I overlooked your unbridaled optimism because I do not think it is unbridaled. I am realistically expecting BOB to lead BC to the college football championship game against the Tar Heels.

Yep. Josh does as well....and he has 3 rings as OC. Not 6.

He proved it w/o Tom so that was solid

I think he's just a "good" DC when he's under Bill. Alone, who knows. Probably just OK at best. As others have pointed out, he doesn't hold a candle to Brian Flores, either under Bill or away from Bill, as a DC. But he wasn't bad either, at least in NE.

Yes three rings as the OC, six rings total. He was coaching when we earned all six rings.

Experience is valuable. This is the first time I have heard the concept that working for a successful, brilliant guy is not a positive because then an employee has to prove himself without the guidance of their old boss. Typically working for a great boss is a positive because great bosses know other good employees.

Yes- Josh was there for all 6. He was OC for 3.

Look at Eric Bienemy as an example.

It is a fact Josh has not had success leading another team's offense without BB as head coach. In 5 stops as HC or OC, his teams have finished 21st in points. That is not good.

We all know BB's genius is on the defensive side of the ball. His value to Josh was not play-calling per-se, but strategy and attacking opposing defenses. Josh admits that.

You think Josh can operate at a high-level without BB. History has not proven that to be fact.

Happy for him. He's a good defensive coach, and play caller.
It's actually very unfair that his entire reputation was destroyed because of BB's stupid idea 3 years ago.
(although Matt should have been rocket-engineer smart enough to say no to that too)

This should help rebuild his cache to get another NFL job in the next couple years.
