Malcolm Butler sort of talks about his SB benching

However, I blame the veterans on defense and Tom Brady for not stepping up while the team was getting scored on to put him in.
We don't know what those conversations were. For all we know they might have done that.

People are ridiculous. Brady over BB « it’s all about the players ». Same people « BB cost us the Welker foot game and the Malcolm benching SB ».

Choose one.
Coaches can't win games but they can certainly lose them as we saw in SB52.

I think at that point everyone was really afraid of Bill.

So he didn’t reveal anything new. Clickbait.

There you go. All the blame, no credit. I just disagree.

If there is a story to be told somewhere down the line, it will be that for whatever reason, Malcolm was not the best player up for that particular game.
We had career special teamers getting regular snaps (and getting regularly torched).

Whatever the story is, it had nothing to do with who was the "best player for that particular game."

I think it was a coaches decision that Malcolm agrees with because he did do something wrong.
This is how I feel.

When asked about it, Butler doesn't say things like "I don't know.... I have no idea why I was benched..... (etc)". I think he knows why he was benched and he knows he did something wrong.

I think any good leader anywhere would do the same. Take blame but give credit to others.

I can’t find this quote anywhere. And if this was true I can’t see him not being made a game time inactive. He also was out there on special teams. I also don't think guys like Amendola would have been as bitter toward BB for this move as he is if that were true.

I mean he’s verbatim quoting something Bill Belichick has constantly said.

Amendola was going to be bitter towards BB no matter what. So was Tom and Gronk.

Anybody realize the domino effect of Butler's benching?? We went and sign the guy who torched us in FA: because BB thought Patrick Chung could cover Nelson Agholor in that SB.

What if it hit its crescendo less than 90 minutes before kickoff, After the actives were reported?

I don't want to just blindly believe this any more or less than the other rumors but this would be a good example of something that would justify the benching and justify why Bill and Malcolm would stay quiet.

There are plenty of holes to this rumor too so let's not get into a back and forth over it. Just an example of something that people might not consider while they just blindly blame BB.

Bottom line is we just don't have enough info to find someone guilty.

The domino effect of Bill losing the locker room? Of Gronk being a petulant child that off-season, and Tom getting everyone to run it back one more time. The effect of Tom winning the last one and then being freakin' miserable?

Yeah the whole argument about his performance being the reason he didn’t play doesn’t work for me. Hard to believe he wouldn’t have been an immediate upgrade to whoever was out there when Foles was torching our defense.

My understanding of the situation is this:

The Eagles were loaded with really big wide receivers, and Butler had struggled all season with big wide receivers.

Belichick and the coaches informed Butler that the game plan against Philly had Butler moving inside as the slot corner.

Butler, who was about to hit free agency after the game took this as a demotion. He then confronted Steven Belichick about it, and got way out of line in doing so, and may have threatened him, or become physical with him.

Butler then called out sick for the first week of practices.

Belichick then told Butler he wouldn’t be playing against the Eagles

Butler later admitted to causing the problem, and acknowledged that he didn’t know the game plan.

Why is this a state level secret lol?

Yep. What kills ne is the people posting acting like they know some super secret reason but are bound by some lifetime blood oath never to reveal it on a football Messageboard.

Are you certain they did not?

I highly doubt they did. The cameramen would’ve picked up on it just like they did with the Kelce-Reid bump.

Defensive leaders should’ve demanded it. However, majority of them were fringe players who could be replaced which was why I doubt they said a word to Bill.

We may never know for certain but one thing was for certain and that's Bill ruled with an iron fist.
