PATRIOTS NEWS Slater gone

Slater has left the building, I wish he would have stayed. I think he could have had a role with the team moving forward.

I shared this on Saruday.

I honestly believe it came down to Mike sensing even an ounce of disapproval from Slater and being a human being that makes sense. However Vrabel doesn’t want that in the locker room.
Only reason Springer made it his team performed excellent and he wasn’t a Mayo guy.

When people say that Bill didn't show favorites I point them to Slater. An incredibly overrated and overpaid player who had the good fortune to be Jackie's kid. That made him an obvious favorite with Bill and Bob.
You're pointing to the wrong guy. Slater is all time great. 10x Pro Bowl, 5x All-Pro. A gunner who made the play consistently. Doubled every time. Field position is so important, and Slater maximized the Patriots' advantage. If you think he's "incredibly overrated", you are on an island by yourself, with maybe a volleyball to talk to. Tell me why he's overrated.

I know this will ruffle some feathers as I am about as anti-religion as it gets, but I don't know why the team (or any team) needs some sort of religious/spiritual advisor/team chaplain/snake oil salesmen. Can't think of many industries where some religious guy just hangs around the building waiting for someone to counsel. That always seemed like it should be a "do that on your own time" thing to me.

His chance of being inducted to the NFL HOF is close to zero.
Until Tasker gets in, yep. If he does, then Slater will get in eventually. His longevity as an elite gunner is unmatched.

Yeah, probably not a needed topic to debate.

Which is why I said discussed. Like Tasker it should receive some discussion.
Tasker is a 9 time finalist and he's still not in. His resume might be better than Slater's.

I doubt there will be any such discussion.

So your take is that Tasker gets considered 9 times but Slater shouldn't even be discussed.

I think Slater's role was to be someone in-house who can help guide young men to make good decisions in life. Personal, financial, etc.

I think Vrabel sees coaches being that person they can talk to.

Love how you get triggered and add "shouldn't" when I never gave any opinion either way.

I said his chances are close to zero. Tasker is still not in after being a finalist 9 times. Slater also has no standout moment in his career to distinguish himself in the voters minds.

There's nothing to discuss. That's how the NFL HOF views full time kick coverage guys.

Matthew Slater will have loads of opportunities as ST coach around the NFL or college football. He'd also be an interesting voice on the media - he's always insightful in his appearance on TV or podcasts. Wish him the best.

There's plenty to discuss.

I guess you're butthurt Tasker never got in. Maybe I was wrong about you being a Jets fan maybe you're actually Bills fan.

I don't think Tasker is a superior player to Slater, but that's arguable. Bottom line is that the NFL has ignored special teams guys (aside from kickers) for HoF consideration. If that changes, Slater will get in.

They're close. I think Tasker also has more all-pros than Slater has.

I think NFL rule changes in the last decade around kickoffs have made the gunner almost obsolete. Doubt the HOF's perception of gunners will change much anytime soon if at all.
