What on earth is Dallas thinking with this trade? I don't get this one at all. Yes, the Mavs needed a defensive stopper but not at the cost of the league's leading scorer last year. On top of that, Davis is 31 whereas Luka is only 25. That right there is enough reason to NOT make this trade.

I’m just happy to not be a Mavs fan. Trading him is one of the dumbest trades I’ve ever seen, especially when he never requested one.

The return is ****.

agreed, stupid. I heard this morning on the radio that Dallas was tired of Luka being out of shape and fat. Still, you dont trade a guy like that for an often injured AD

Worst trade i've ever seen

I think this is all on the Mavs management not wanting to pay Luka a super-max contract. They basically screwed him.

From: NBA Insider: Luka Dončić Ineligible for $345M Supermax Contract After Lakers Trade - "ESPN's Bobby Marks reported he is no longer eligible for the super-max extension this summer that would have paid him $345 million over five years."

Given how this looks, I would think that this hurts the Mavs for future free agent signings. Who wants to play for a team that screws over their best player?

Dallas simply did not want to give Luca a supermax deal and the concerns about his conditioning, legs, and defense are warranted.
He led them to the NBA finals. 2nd best player in the league. Fat Luka is still far more valuable than AD at this point. If they really wanted to trade him they should have shopped around. the return was hideous.

The reality was, Anthony Davis is not the future for the Lakers. If this were anytime before the 2010/Steph Curry era, the big man was the centerpiece of the team. Those players just can't carry teams anymore when players have become a 3 point shooting team first. Not to mention Davis is extremely unreliable. Lakers fans got a first taste of it during the 2011-12 semi finals when Andrew Bynum was having his best postseason fighting hard for every point and Kobe doing his thing, only for the Mavericks to trade with 3 pointers. As a Lakers fan, it was tough to watch. The post game was going extinct.

With that said, I'm shocked the Mavericks did this deal. I still don't think it will be enough for LeBron and the Lakers. LeBron is the highest maintenance player I've ever seen. He will find a way for the other team to overwhelm them when the playoffs roll around.

I don't think he is the 2nd best player so we'll disagree there.

His value has depreciated because of his health, conditioning, lack of defense, and pay. AD also has health issues.

He's 25 though.... Bro is so uber talented he never cared about this, and its catching up finally

now he gon learn from LeFreak on how to be a proper professional

If I cared about the Mavs at all I'd be sick to my stomach

If this happened to Tatum (gained ~30lbs. Misses 20 games a year) before his supermax deal i'd lose my ****.

Let's see if Doncic learns....

On NBA radio this morning a Lakers fan brought up how often AD was injured, the two hosts told him to look up how much time Doncic has missed the last three seasons, it’s more than than AD. I didn’t realize that.
