OT - Not Hyperbole- Spags is among the best DC ever

Spags?? Demarcus Covington says hello.

Spags is up there no question about it. His defense took down probably the greatest team ever assembled. He has the rings to prove it. If you don't know who that team is shame on you.

Spags has also had seasons where his defenses set the NFL historic record for yards allowed, I believe most points allowed in Giants history, and has fielded a 32nd defense more than once.
2007 team was mediocre, but the 2008 team was a lot better. It was the 2012 Saints Defense that you are referring to.
Some people here just like tee'ing off on Bill because you can just say some silly got-ya **** and think they've cracked an atom with their sharp wit.
Spags is the hot guy at the moment and with good reason - he's the best in the game right now. But he's not the best ever.
Also I will go as far to say: Eagles SB is Belichick's most historic blunder. It pissed off the team, it probably didn't help the Brady situation... Just terribly managed. And it was a moment where the did NOT put the team first.
It was surprising that Bill didn't have answer for the gimmick RPO offense. The refs didn't help the cause either with the illegal formation not called on another gimmick play and the RB clearly not completing the catch for a TD. That season as a whole was a **** show for the NFL. Had Bill put Gilmore on Jeffrey from the first play of the game and Butler on Agholor, I think it would've been enough to hold them down.

A top 5 all time coordinator okay but if you think Spags is a better D coordinator than Belichick, Ryan or LeBeau (apologies to anyone I may not be remembering off the top of my head) then I suspect you may have been dropped on your head as an infant

Edit: when I made this post the title of the thread was OT - Not Hyerpoble -- Spags is the best DC ever
The thread title reads "AN all time great", not "THE all time great". It's like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

Like the post says, the thread title was edited

Spags def deserves some credit. Hes up there but not in the Mr. Rushmore of defensive minds..

BB
Lebeau
Buddy Ryan
Tom Landry (DC for Giants. Doomsday D was his)

Somewhere after that is Bud Carson (Steel Curtain), Joe Collier (Orange Crush), Monte Kiffin (Philly, TB)
Actually the Steel Curtain DC was indeed Bud Carson (I ****ed this up previously my apologies) but George Perles was also instrumental and obviously Chuck Noll had plenty to do with that also. Perles was a hell of a good football coach, as @State will undoubtedly agree.

Given the sometimes ludicrous modern bias towards offense in the NFL, I concur that Spags has become a dominant force as the Chrefs DC. Curious that nobodies like Liam Coen are getting HC gigs for smelling “One Title” Sean McVays farts and the Lions lose both coordinators after one great season while Spags is kept in KC.

A vastly underappreciated aspect to BBs success is how he continually had to hit the reset button after losing great assistants, something Andy Reid hasn’t had to contend with much for some curious reason.

Umm.. those names combined have less superbowls combined. Yes, lots of great individual years snd some great defenses but if you look at the scoreboard (clutch) Spags is an all timer.

I look at the scoreboard and I see BB at 8.

Water seeks its own level.

He's had a couple of shots as HC but failed miserably like most do. 11-41 W-L record in 3 1/4 seasons. I think he knows his water level.

Defense still wins Championships.

Buffalos defense sucked axx all season. They allowed KC to hang 32 points up. I got caught up in the this is Josh Allens time to ascend to elite QB hype, but Spagnolia had other plans.

If Spagnolia stops Barkley the Eagles are toast.

Yep. Whatever it was could have been dealt with a lot better in many different ways.

Speculation to say if Butler played he would have flipped the outcome although that is likely true. But it's not speculation to know what Nick Foles did to the defense when Butler wasn't on the field.
