Not an immediate need assuming Jones resigns but one that we will almost always look to add depth.

The obvious names at the top are a possibility at 4 but I'm more interested in discussing hidden gems that can be found on day 2 and 3.

With that in mind and knowing the new DC likes his players to play with violence. I present Upton Stout Western KY

Cobee Bryant, Kansas, 5'11'', 171 lbs with 32" arms.

Has been getting rave reviews in the Shrine Game. Doesn't have the best of coverage grades from PFF (he's about mid-table) but his run defense grade is the best amongst all CBs in CFB. What I like about him is that he is versatile, comfortable in both man and zone and can play in the slot or out wide.

This drill is a really tough format for CBs, particularly those that are primarily zone CBs so I think he did well. I do think he's a slot guy only at that size however.

Bad history of Uptons with the Pats.

Upton, MA is a nice little place though.

They need someone who can play the boundary CB, Gonzo’s partner for guys that will muscle up on Jon or Marcus Jones, better than Austin or Bolden.

FS is as much of a need, better to not try to force Dugger or Peppers into a role where they aren’t very good.

Watched more of Porter. I'm sold. Fast, physical, good instincts. Special teams monster. So many good players in the 25-50 range this year. I'd love to trade down several times and pick four or five of them.
Whilst I still want Carter or Hunter, I can see the argument that we are not just one player away. On the other hand, I also see the argument that, hopefully, we'll not be in a position to pick someone like Carter or Hunter again. Merits to both sides of the debate.

I think we are all in agreement that if Carter/Hunter(for me less so lol) is there than we run to Goodell with the card. But otherwise we are likely looking at a trade as this means Ward/Sanders are available for a QB desperate team.

I'm yet to watch Porter. How do you feel about him being 24? Being 28 at the end of his contract is a bit of worry with regards to giving him a 2nd contract.

The team needs talent. I don't care about second contracts that much. A lot can change in four years. And 28 is hardly old! Maybe that's my bias kicking in as I stare down 40 soon, but I'm not sure age matters much to me. I do think a young prospect has more growing room, I guess, since I see a big change between 20 and 25, but 22vs24 is a wash for me.

I only think the age thing is an issue as regards his longevity with the club. When it comes time to his second contract you're looking at a CB who will be over 30 within two years. Given the rookie year too and you might only get 3 years of quality production out of him if you decide not to give him a second contract. That's where my concern lies - a 2nd round
pick on someone who may only have 3 years of quality production.

It's not a complete red flag for me but I would use it as a factor when weighing up who to pick at 38. I am finding CB really hard to value in this draft. a no2 corner is clearly a need but where does it sit in the hierarchy of needs? Personally, I hope they address CB2 in FA.

You make a good point because obviously we are not 1 player away. CB is similar to WR for me. Not something I'm seeking out early but if the value is there.

I hear you, but when I see the state of our second round picks lately, I'll take anyone who can play -- even for only three years -- over stiffs like Polk. We need talent. How we acquire it doesn't matter to me as long as we have a clear plan and can identify good players consistently. FA or draft is all the same.
