Like to hire. Not affiliated with BB coaching tree. Need to get away from that.
In case you haven't noticed, Vrabel has a lot of respect for the Belichick coaching tree, and he's very much like Belichick himself, from prep to culture to attitude. He's different, but there are huge similarities. Don't know why we need to get away from the coaching tree that brought us a ton of success and was foundational to the dynasty.

Could be worse.

We could be hiring from the Rex Ryan tree.

Did he notice 12 men on the field and why did he not call a timeout? That's all I care about!

Not only him but several other coaches as they were yelling onto the field. No one thought to call a time out? I mean is the Chiefs ball boy a better option?

Imagine getting him or a Combo of Mason Graham/Sawyer or Abdul Carter/Sawyer. Me and you could play CB for the Patriots along side Gonzo... bring the Heat!!
You are giving me too much credit.

My only concern is that DeMarcus Covington was a DL coach last year and there was hardly any resistance from this board regarding the hire.

But then again, I don't expect the Pats landing some premier DC which doesn't really exist outside of Spagnuolo.

If they don’t make some moves to improve the talent, it doesn’t really matter who the DC is. Just gonna be a fall guy.

I was also supportive of Cov.

Difference here is TW has a ton more experience. Hes 52...Cov is 35.

Cov was another one who probably was rushed into a role he wasn't fully prepared for. BB hired him as an assistant in 2017. Then made him OLB coach in 2019, then DL coach in 2020. He was DC at a college before coming to the pros...just like Dean Pees. He was moving up the ranks quickly. Barmore and others spoke well of him.

If Vrabel and TW think hes a good coach but was just put in a ****ty situation and is worth keeping then so be it.

I mentioned this on another thread but Carlton Davis was my target in the 2nd round the year he was drafted. Checkout his arm length!

There seems to be a pretty good list of DBs on the 2025 free agent lists. We should definitely be able to find someone to pair with Gonzo.

probably none of any quality that would be willing to come here, but there's a few that might want one last big payday on the way out. Gilmore for example.

Just came here to post this news. Actually Terrell Williams has been very good as the Lion's DL coach so this looks like a pretty good move from a coaching standpoint. How good is he at calling plays though? No idea. But he was very respected by the Lions players and organization so I think we nabbed a pretty good one here. Hopefully it will pan out when he is given full DC responsibilities.

Big discrepancy with the Experience factor between these two coaches
Vrabel can help out with play calling while learning
Mayo had no experience in helping out with play calling with Covington

Yeah Vrabel thought highly enough of him to let him be HC to open a preseason with Tennessee.
