There's no way we can afford the FA approach being similar to what we saw last season, correct?

You are positing that those running the draft will have a different approach this year.

I hope so.

Of course, BPA was right last year also.

As much as people can’t help but to want needs to drive draft choices BPA is the way you build the best team. Fortunately I think Vrabel is going to be able to address the biggest needs, other than WR in free agency, and that should allow them to draft the best players when April rolls around. Need will still play a role in every decision, but it shouldn’t lead to taking lesser players.

WR is problematic. This is not a good free agent class for WR, which I’m is why Higgins is standing out among the rest. He’s not a 1 and they shouldn’t give him 30+ million a year. And the other “ top” receivers are over 30 and falling off fast. They shouldn’t invest heavily in them either. The best move imo is to trade for Deebo. He’s making 23 million a season, and his deal will run out in a couple of seasons, freeing up 25 million for free agency just as this team should be hitting their stride, and becoming a true contender. This would solve the problem short term, and free them up for the longer term.

I am sure that Vrabel asked for a commitment to spend this free agency. Even though he wanted to be the Patriots' head coach, he wouldn't walk into a situation where he is set up to fail. I also think he has final say in personnel. And I think despite everything being business as usual in the front office, the addition of Cowden means things will be changing.

And I think people are too quick to kill Wolf. He gained control of the front office last year and that means that there were no changes to how they did business yet by the time free agency happened and all the year long scouting was done under Belichick.

People forget how bad the draft was with the first year of Pioli in the front office. It was because they were still using Bobby Grier's scouting and staff. Pioli hadn't implemented his system.

It is different because Wolf was here under Belichick, but Belichick didn't believe in analytics and other things many teams use today. Maybe Wolf does and hadn't implemented it yet. I am sure Cowden believes in that stuff and it could be implemented by the draft. Cowden will have his scouting from the Giants to work with and luckily, the Giants need help everywhere. So he will likely have extensive scouting.

The WR class might be better by free agency. Davante Adams will likely be cut by the Jets. Christian Kirk might be cut too. Other WRs might be cut.

And there will be a lot of trade potentials with Deebo Samuel, Tyreek Hill, DK Metcalf, Cooper Cupp, Garrett Wilson, and George Pickens. Some of them probably won't be available. Some will.

I don't know if I would trade for Deebo unless it is a late round pick. They guy is mostly living off of reputation at this point and constantly injured. He really only had one great season and that was 2021. He hasn't even had 900 yards receiving since then. He is still a threat to run, but he really is not a great receiver.

If I am targeting a trade, I would go after DK Metcalf. Not sure if the Seahawks would let him go, but from an age and production standpoint, he is the best and most realistic option. I would love to trade for Wilson, but the Jets will ask for a haul if they are willing to cave to his demands for a trade (that is of course they keep Rodgers) and it is still doubtful that the Jets would trade him to the Patriots.

Just finished listening to coach Vrabel's interview on WEEI Greg Hill show. Few things of note. He said in FA he's going after guys that can catch the ball and create yards after the cath. Said he wants physical, tough WR'S that have a great catch radius. He spoke glowing of AJ Brown, and says he has a great relationship with him. As a patriots fan it made me ecstatic to hear this! Tells me that Vrabel's going to probably inquire about the possibility of AJ. Deebo I think we all can expect SF to probably release him? Also the DK Metcalf scenario is probably the most logical.

If the Eagles didn't just give Brown an extension, I would say that there is a realistic possibility for Vrabel to reunite with Brown. But even though Brown seems to want out of Philly, I don't know if they can trade him. They don't have a lot of cap space with some big free agents (Sweat, Milton Williams, and Zach Baun to name a few). The dead money from a trade of Brown, at least before June 1, would cripple the Eagles to keep any of these guys.

Jeff Laurie and Kraft reported have great relationship. I think it's possible. There have been players diggs for example who had recently gotten an extension with the bills then got traded to Houston. I think we could even move the 3rd for judon for AJ. He could come here and thrive with Drake.. we are in an Adventageous position.. 100 plus million or more in space 4th overall pick.

Brown got a three year $96 million extension with a $28.5 million signing bonus and that is on top of the money they already paid him. He has $61 million worth of dead money if he is traded. Not the same thing as Diggs.

IF a guy is Traded doesn't the current Team pick up all his $$$$??

Saw that yikes.

Picks up future money. But signing bonus stays with the original team.

Overthecap says it’ll cost the Eagles $13.9 in additional cap space (above and beyond what his charge is now ) if they trade him pre June 1. After June 1, there’s $6.9m in cap savings. So the first time the Eagles can seriously think about trading Brown is in training camp.

Oh I know.. just summizing that if we did grade for AJ assuming his salary wouldn't be a problem.. he'd be the number 1 option here.. while we can correctly develop polk and baker under legit coaching.

I see your vision with Deebo it would save us $$$$$$: but my concerns are will He be mostly making it from the Tub or on the field?? I fear the former unfortunately: I'll meet you halfway Ivan: how about Tee Higgins in FA at all cost and Deebo Samuel in a Trade Maye would be very happy an Elite WR room right there.

Coach said today he wants WRs with big catch radius and can make contest catches.. he also wants guys that can make yards after the catch...

@ss-hole Tyreek Hill will be available: I'm not high on him as person but as a WR that's different story. Tee Higgins - Tyreek Hill again Elite WR room.

Tee Higgins = Catch Radius - Tyreek Hill = Yac.

I’ll pass. Build up the OL/ DL&LB’s. Once they can run and stop the run everything will play to their favor off of those strengths.

Mike Vrabel ain't taking the BB approach and on the position. We are going workout both Travis Hunter and Tet McMillan.

I’m pretty sure Vrabel is on record as believing the lines come first.

And after you forced Eliot Wolf to take Polk I doubt the new regime will be doing your bidding anymore.

And don’t try to deny it PF2, I have the documentary proof, and have already provided it.

They'll give me a Second chance like Wolf. Don't forget I wanted A.J. Brown and George Pickens a while back too. We would have Never Drafted Polk if we had either of those two: which shows I have a very good eye for WR's. You can't blackball me Ivan.
