Can the Patriots do what the Houston Texans did quickly under new leadership?

I'm here for all the hopium, pump it into my veins!

I agree with most of what is written here, i.e. we have a solid start at HC and QB, but man we need to really acquire a lot of talent to replace a lot of meh players, and bring in a lot of upgrades on the coaching staff and front office too.

We need something akin to the fabled 2000-2001 off-season where BB did a major reboot.

Does Vrabel have that good a read on the available talent, and the authority to make such changes?

Time will tell.

They need a great offseason.

If they bolster both lines, offensive and defensive, there's no reason they can't be competitive immediately...

They could have been competitive this year, but collaboration and coaching was a disaster.
It will be a collaboration Wooz.

You read my mind... I mentioned in previous post that we may need to replicate or something close to the 20 plus FAs brought in. I completely entrust Vrabel and his guy he brought in to get FA talent back in the building.. for example.. adding 2 WRs on the outside would be a tremendous impact for the offense.. it allows the other guys to play in thier natural positions as 3s and 4s.. on defense.. I think we have the FS in marpu.. Vrabel will exude every ounce of talent in him.. adding 2 edge rushers and depth at LB and DT would do wonders for the front 7.

This is good stuff! this is exactly what is happening in NE within Vrabel. The coaching chang in Washington I think happened in 2024? Right Ron riveria was HC in 23? They also got the QB position right. Once you get the QB right everything else you can put together a lot easier. We are fortunate to have Drake. Not he has a great HC we just need to surround him with talent. I'm really excited for the defense becuase they will get huge boost from coach Vrabel.
Yes, they hired Dan Quinn before this season, and he brought Kliff Kingsbury as OC and Joe Whitt as DC. And the key was hiring Larry Izzo as ST coordinator, for a touch of that Foxboro culture.

The new ownership took over just before training camp in 2023. They rode with Ron Rivera as incumbent for 2023 while they made their plans, executed them starting with the coaching change after last season. Looking like they’ve got a winning culture, will have to see how it sustains.

Awesome!! You said it " winning culture " we haven't had that the past few seasons.. when you see guys this past season laughing and joking after losses it told me they are content with losing. Vrabel won't stand for any slacking or guys that are all about themselves.. the coach and QB are at the top of the equation when building and creating the culture.

I think the corner is in sight. Next year is about Vrabel laying the foundation and vision. Wish it was a better FA and Draft class. We are more than just a few players away.
As the great man said "this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning".

I do not think it is reasonable to expect that.

Texans managed to draft BOTH Stroud and Will Anderson in year 1.
Stroud's development has been pretty amazing and only superseded by Jayden Daniels.

Maye shows great promise but he is nowhere near Stroud's level during rookie year.
Also Texans had more talent at other positions than Pats do.
I do not think the Pats turnaround will be that quick.

The Texans were helped in their rebuild by getting 3 firsts for Watson. They had four first round picks in 22-23, including 3 in the top 3. They also drafted well elsewhere.

We can plug some immediate holes through free agency to give us a short term boost but the only way we build effectively is to start hitting on difference makers in the draft. We can’t miss on the number 4 pick - and we need way more out of those 2-4th rounders. We used to manage to find Shaq Mason, Trey Flowers, James White, Joe Thuney and Juwhaun Bentley types in the middle rounds but haven’t done that in several years.

A collaboration with coach Vrabes in charge instead of coach Jonathan. Hopefully personnel with Vrabes guy as the final voice instead of GM Jonathan.
Happy days are here again Wooz.

Hopefully, I still want to see the choices made at coordinator and see who is making personnel decisions before I think we’re out of the water as fans. Vrabes in Tennessee with a poor GM was still limited.

You have a QB
You have high draft picks
You have money to spend

So realistically yes you have the chance to turn it around in short order. You need to start drafting MUCH better, you need to be willing to spend, and overpay for certain guys. These are obviously key. If this draft yields a bunch of spare parts like almost all the Pats drafts seem to the rebuild will be slow, slogging and we’ll eventually be one of those teams that’s in the playoffs every couple years and just spins it’s wheels

Maybe....I'd be happy to get back into the hunt. Get to an average offense and defense.

I went into the year under the belief that Denver had one of the worst defenses in the league, and that they would be a bottom 5 team in the league. Look how that went.

You're never out of the conversation for the playoffs when you have the right coach/QB pairing. Very doubtful we end up being true contenders next year, but any level short of that should not be ruled out.

There's several issues. The Patriots have a severe talent issue and it often gets underestimated. They need a huge infusion of talent. The Texans did not have as far to go and were really just lacking a QB to tie it together.

Likewise, we are in a division with a team that has won double digit games and at least one playoff game each of the last 6 seasons with a top 3 QB in the league that has been in the MVP race the last two years. Even if everything goes well, there's a strong chance that we end up being more like the Chargers or Broncos who are fighting for a wildcard spot and playing on the road if we even make the playoffs because of a brick wall in the division. Meanwhile the AFC South is mediocre with no real standout QB's and it's easy to breakthrough.

His father isn’t the Daryl Stingley Sr. who played for the Patriots. Easy mistake to make though.
Daryl Stingley was Derek Stingley Jr’s grandfather.
