The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

Sounds nice in theory but you can't put pen to paper for Johnson until his team's season ends which might not be for over 4 weeks from now. He would be free to pick someone else or decide to stay in Detroit between now and then while you are sitting on your hands. If you had picked Vrabel you could already have your coaching staff largely sorted out and your front office re-organized and attending the Senior Bowl together by that point.
That is not something I would let affect my decision making at all. He can agree in principle if you want him. If he pulls a Josh McDaniels on you then oh well too bad

If that happens the Franchise is still cursed from Giselle.

A maple fretboard on a Les Paul is a rarity. Some 70's and 80's Customs had them. Recently, some ES Les Pauls had baked maple boards But, not a lot in total. I've been playing for 60 years, and still suck
I love finger picking mostly
Blues is what draws me in
I wish I took lessons to learn the theory behind the music

Yes agree about Les Paul. My Strat has rosewood. It's a '62 replica build by Fender around 1981 (i bought it new). I might trade it in for a Tele with Maple.
Your 62 reissue is worth a nice piece of change, my friend. You ought to be able to cut yourself a good deal. Be sure to check Reverb, EBay, etc, to get a good idea of what it is worth, happy hunting.

I was a young teenager without a lot of $. How did I get a new Strat? The store next to the guitar shop was a collectible / antique store. They gave me enough to buy the guitar for a Mickey Mantle baseball card.

I should...I never looked into that. Thanks!

Never too late Lots of theory available on the www, I'll bet you'll make headway quickly.

Exactly!

Vrabel - Les Paul Standard
Johnson - Fender Strat
Belichick - some kind of Gretsch
Belichick being arguably the GOAT would be playing a Chet Atkins model Gretsch, certainly. Ben Johnson would play an Eric Johnson strat, both models. Vrable, I picture him playing a Gibson Flying V

Let's see the timeline/reported things here...

1) Pats reported favorite candidate is one that can be hired right away (Vrabel) but they also request to talk to Johnson
2) BUT they have to meet the Rooney rule first
3) they immediately interview two seemingly unqualified candidates that "check the box" so they can hire someone right way if they wanted
4) after a day of backlash over it they request to interview Glenn, who every other team already requested as one of their FIRST orders of business

Seems very obvious that they have no intention of hiring Glenn. They just wanted to do it as a token interview not to satisfy the Rooney rule but as a defense against people who said the first two interviews were token interview to satisfy the Rooney rule.

It's a shame too because it's not crazy to think Vrabel and Johnson end up in one of the other openings and in that case they need someone else and Glenn might be the next best candidate. It's frustrating that they're only interviewing two serious candidates and even more frustrating that they managed to piss off other serious candidates in the process with a real possibility they could lose out on their top 2.
I completely agree.

Take this rumor for what is it worth, I heard Vrabel wants 15 Million and total control.

Total control should be a nonstarter. It doesn't happen anymore and frankly that model stopped working a long time ago. We had an exception because Bill was a super football genius and Tom is the GOAT and they were able to keep it going even when Bill stopped drafting well a decade ago.

If Vrabel can find a renowned GM to come in with him, he's fine (he'd still be my second choice). Full control will be a disaster.
