It forces interviews.
And that is problem that has a morally wrong downside. Forcing organizations to interview candidates based on their skin color. It's morally wrong to force this on an organization. Obviously you don't believe this is wrong or some kind of downside.

It had nothing to do with the rule. That's what you don't get.
I see you on here alot, and I disagree with probably 70% of what YOU SAY.
I don't know you, but I DON'T LIKE YOU, because you think you are smarter than everyone else.

Straight Up.

That doesn't matter, I think you feel like you are smarter than everyone else, and I'm sorry...I just don't believe that.
Fkn Loudmouth like Mayo and his team.

Bah, move along, I'm not about to do the Ring/SB1 and others kinda crap, I'm just going to laugh at most of your takes.

See ya, MUCH LATER I HOPE.

Explain how forcing an interview is a problem. In fact explain how it is a moral problem in an industry that is full of nepotism. It literally only gives people visibility. It doesn't mandate a hiring. It doesn't mandate a payday. It mandates an hour long conversation.

I don't think I'm smarter than everyone else. I just think if you say something and claim it to be a fact you should be able to back it up, especially when it's pretty well documented situation. I'm sorry that bothers you and makes you go on a "I hate you so much rant".

That might be too much to ask. Anyways I don't really have a clue who you are and don't think about you and I'm happy to keep it that way. This was a really weird post.

Great, I'll just Ignore you, it'll save me some agony from nonsense.
Take Care.

I've already posted most of this. It's a waste of time, money for the organization. And it's awkward because everyone knows that many of these interviews are not genuine. It's also takes away the freedom of the organization to interview only the candidates they are interested in.

I agree with you on the money aspect. I don't think teams should have to fly people out and host them. I'd rather they just make it virtual. The time thing I don't really care about. An interview is a couple of hours at the start of the off season.

However, where I totally disagree is that it takes away freedom of the orgs to interview who they are interested in. I've never seen an instance where an org claimed they couldn't talk to a candidate that they wanted because the Rooney Rule exists.

You beat my edit. "It's also takes away the freedom of the organization to interview only the candidates they are interested in." Which obviously you don't have a problem with.

I mean don't know if I buy that. It takes what 2-3 hours to interview somebody. Even if you have 5 interviews which is a lot, I really don't see how two 1 hour interviews over the course of a search has any tangible impact. Most teams when they want to skirt it just do it at the end. Kraft fumbled by quickly doing it early and bringing attention to it.

Again I've just never seen a single team claim they couldn't properly interview or hire who they wanted because of that rule. And a team definitely would if they felt it screwed their franchise that badly.

Hell you got teams like the Jets that are interviewing everyone and their mother, it's not like their is some shortage of time that two interviews is constraining.

If you know who you want to pursue, then it's smart to get your DEI/Rooney Rule interviews out of the way so you can get completely focused on building the staff that you want

Again I just really don't see two hours of time impairs that. Let's say Vrabel is the guy, let's say it takes a week to get the contract agreed on. Vrabel isn't going to be there that whole week.

I just keep coming back to, if this was legitimately the problem you are saying it is, one of the owners would have complained about it by now and blamed a bad season for it impacting their coaching search. And it just never happens.

Either way, I don't think we are going to agree on this and are probably going to go in circles, so if you're cool with it, we can amicably end this. Unless you want to keep debating it, I'm fine with that too. Your call friend.

For now it is. But hopefully the NFL changes this and quits forcing teams to conduct interviews based on skin color. And if they don't, I hope a court intervenes to stop this.

Your wish may come true. There was a Charge filed with the EEOC about a year ago. Not sure whether the EEOC investigated it or not.

Correct, other teams skirt the process with sham interviews. And they manage to do so while not making it look stupidly obvious like Kraft did here to the point of drawing criticism.
No….. no they kinda really don’t. The Patriots haven’t done anything that hasn’t already been done dozens of times or been any more or less obvious about it.
Why couldn't Kraft have just been confident enough to do that?
To do what? He interviewed 2 black candidates. What was he supposed to do that he didn’t do? Interview them harder??

I meant “competent”, not confident.

But cmon man. Pep and Leftwhich are unserious candidates. Couldn’t they have interviewed Salah on Wednesday and Ron Rivera on Tuesday. Like at least pick guys who you can argue are candidates. And put in a request for the very qualified Aaron Glen right away. It’s just really not that hard to satisfy the rule in a way that is obviously making a mockery of it but not so blatantly that your organization gets dragged through the mud.

The flaw to the rooney rule is that when there is an obvious candidate that the owners want to hire before hand. Every interview with a minority candidate is a sham and insulting. Although tbf that would be the case with other random white candidates too. It works best when the search is truly wide open.

ohh... so giving a sham interview to 2 different black guys would have been ok, but these black guys it wasn't....

The Patriots HC search is about 2 candidates. We all know who they are. There isn't a black person in the world they could interview where it wasn't an obvious sham.
