you are right. they are not going to get rid of him.

They should fire him. He is a horrible coach. Period. Nothing has improved, even incrementally. In fact, its gotten worse. He is another **** McPherson, another Clive Rush. Great guy, Great player. Horrible NFL coach. In fact, I do not think its an exaggeration to say he is the worst NFL coach I have ever seen.

The Krafts need to cut him loose. Now. Not next year. Unless whole sale changes are made, this team is going to under perform again next year. Count on it.
The only thing that changes things are when reality sets in and for the 3rd season in a row we are out the post season wich was once routine in Foxboro. Ownership decides that even though they like Mayo maybe it's in the best interests of the organization readjust his role to someone else in the organization. Mayo I can tell you will never get outright fired. He's pretty much like a 5th Kraft son.. yeah he is that deeply beloved by them as a person. HC.. I would say Saturday and urban Myer were worse at NFL HCs.

You like Mayo as the coach, don't you? Thats the sense i get from your posts. If you do, thats fine. we can agree to disagree.

you might have a point with Meyer. He's basically on par with Mayo. Saturday was an interim coach though. he doesn't count.

I am not saying Mayo will get fired. I am saying he should be fired. Like ten minutes after the Buffalo game is over.

I like Mayo as a person. I've criticized him deservedly so as a HC he hasn't helped himself with some of the things self inflicted. I just have a small part of me that believes he could become a good HC. I'm just posting what is realistic given the situation with Mayo and ownership.

The thing here is McAdoo was supposed to be that veteran whisperer to Mayo to help him along. He's the mystery man.. you hear but never see . If.... Ownership does make a change then they need to do it quickly. But they won't. I just want to see if he can become a good coach. However I'm also agree that yeah.. based on the season it's probably a fireable offense.

I have no clue what, if anything, mcadoodoo has done for us this year

I’ve mentioned this name before, but I will mention them again. I want Alaric Jackson, LT for the Rams the past two years. He’s huge, 6-7, 345, still young (27) and has developed into a good to very good starting left tackle. Is he elite ? No, but the top 10-15 LTs will never be available in free agency. He may re-sign with the Rams before the start of free agency, but this would be his first chance to get big money, so his agent may convince him to see what other teams are willing to pay.

From the article: “Jackson has climbed his way up the depth chart since coming into the NFL as an undrafted rookie out of Iowa. He’s been the Rams’ starting left tackle for the last two seasons and he’s really taken a positive step in 2024. He’s allowed only 20 pressures and three sacks in 466 pass-blocking snaps, earning a pass-blocking grade of 79.2 and an overall grade of 79.0.”

LT Alaric Jackson: 86.3 (top grade for Rams players vs. Jets week 16)

I thought that when Belichick was let go, it was the right thing to do, and I still hold that opinion. But I think sports history will see the past year as the Kraft ownership firing one of the greatest coaches in NFL history and replacing him with one of the worst coaches in NFL history.

None of us do. Of all the coaches I think he's the only one that hasn't spoken to the media this season. Very odd. I don't even hear mayo make any references too him like he does for some of his other coaches.

I agree. I understand aside from Drake the draft picks haven't panned out yet. But I'm optimistic that between free agen and the draft this team stands to look entirely different at the skill positions. In 2001 there were what 20 plus FA brought in? We may need to do something similar between the draft and FAs
Great point about the early BB years when the roster went through serious turnover. If at the end of training camp we're looking at twenty different players on the 52-man roster, and six of them are the top draft picks in their respective 2025 rounds and the other fourteen are acquisitions made possible by the $120M in current unspent cap space, this is a different team in so many ways.

For the sake of argument, lets say that ten of those guys are three-down starters in 2025, we're looking at turning over roughly 45% of the players we saw take the most snaps on Sundays in 2024. None of the other AFC East teams have the cap space to do much without dumping quality players , and even then their dead money will be an obstacle.

Things change quickly in the NFL.

This is where coaching in 2025 really matters. I believe the Krafts will keep Mayo unless somebody who can work with Van Pelt falls in their laps. Van Pelt has shown us that he is a better play caller than anyone since Josh, so I'd like him to stay for consistency with Drake Maye. The OL coach showed us little in developing the offensive line. The defense regressed, but was that injuries, scheme, or other distractions? The

You know, I don’t really disagree with you that at some point he could be a good coach. We all loved him as a player.

The thing is, this has been such a horrendous showing by him it’s clear he’s going to need a few years and probably another job before he begins to figure it out. And we’ve got a potentially really good quarterback entering year two. We just don’t have the time to waste.

The Krafts still have to get the hiring right, along with the GM. Not a lot of confidence there. Nevertheless, I can’t even bear to watch but I’ll check the score at 4:30 on Sunday and hope that the Pats have lost by 50.

Any kind of decent showing, or God forbid a win, by the Pats, and he probably stays. And that would be bad. Fingers crossed.

Very, very good post. See that's what I'm talking about. That's really good insights and I believe that's where things likely project to be. We also have Barmore a huge piece of the defense in question due to his health situation so we don't know how that pans out? On offense we need to bring in the level of talent where our current starters have difficulty making the game day line up. Drake is that good and his potential is far from being reached. He had a better rookie year than Josh Allen.

You as well make good points. Unlike some posters I can feel both ways about Mayo like him as a person but also critique him as a HC. As some have mentioned if anything Mayo gets another position within the organization he won't be outright fired. Yeah it hasn't been a great season. Drake has been the shining light on a pathetic season. If and when a change is made is needs to happen ASAP following black Monday Because FA and the draft isn't that far off.

I definitely agree especially on the defensive side. I have pointed out that Mayo, covington, pelligrino, Brian have been the carry over. However the scheme isn't working.. well they don't have the players in the defensive line to pressure the passer.. Last season they were one of the best teams generating pressure. Is why I'm down on covington.
It’s obvious the senior Belichick kid was the coordinator last year, why wasn’t he offered to carryover on the defense like everyone else? I thought he and Mayo were pals, maybe not anymore… it’s telling he was one of the first guys out the door and then onto a new coaching job.

I am sure AVP is currently packing his bags as we speak: he's getting the first axe. IF you don't know just AXE somebody.
Personally I’d keep avp since he did a decent job with Maye. Axe should fall on covingtons neck. Had a decent d and it went in reverse this year. At least avp showed some positive things at times. D was absolute **** this year.

I' love it if they moved on from Mayo. Perhaps look at Brian Flores or someone else anyone else. Just think if we keep Mayo and defeat Buffalo we will be picking 4th. What a terrifying development!!! Nightmare city.......

From My understanding he was. He was given the opportunity to stay. Brian took the offer he didn't went to Washington. Yes he and Mayo were pals. Just like Bill O'Brien he and Mayo were close as well he said Mayo deserved to assemble his own staff he left for BC.

Ok then hire your new coach and keep the 32nd ranked roster. If BB couldn't do it then NO ONE can!!
So you want to sign players before getting new coaches? Not me.

Based on that, he really hasn't done much of anything
Ok! For you, the Offense isn’t progressing.

IMO, the Offense needs talent; full stop.

AVP and McAdoo will be fine after we add 2 OTs and 2 WR’s.
