Pats should hire Steve Spagnuolo as next Head Coach

I'm only saying this because we know bills philosophy with drafting.. he would have traded back or moved around in the first round. Who knows if we even would have taken a QB?. I don't know.. maybe it's just me missing bills structure how he ran an organization.
He stood pat and didn't move with Mac. He knew we needed a QB in 21 and I see no reason to assume he see it similar in 24 and take the best one on the board when he had a chance. Especially not based on some live on air media analysis.

Meeehh

If we are to change HCs, can we please get an offensive-minded guy? Just to try it once?
He will bring a very good OC with him.
Unlike Mayo he knows people and has relationships with coaches and players

Too old

That's true. I really didn't intend for the post to he a negative on bill.. I see some posters got a little emotional LOL. As I said I miss Bill's structure, game planning, making player's accountable. I'm not saying mayos not doing those things behind closed doors as he very well may be. How the on field product is all we have to judge for now.

@signbabybrady I don't think Bill would have taken maye.. he was very critical on him during the draft.. he would have taken Mc carthy and he would have started from day 1.
He wouldn’t have taken Maye because he isn’t a coach that develops raw high upside QB projects. Why would he start now? He likes the polished game manager type and builds around that. If he went QB he have likely taken the polished guy like Nix or McCarthy. Not Maye- there is not even the slightest doubt about that. It’s also why he took Mac Jones instead of Mills who was also a project.

This is what I felt as well.. juat my opinion. shared this with @signbabybrady . Or Bill would have moved around the board and acquired more picks. Is Davis mills even in the league any?

Yup he could have done that too. He always built his team from the outside-in to support his QB not inside-out. Bill has never been a coach to develop a raw high upside QB prospect…I mean guys like Ryan Mallett and Stid weren’t exactly superstars coming out of NE.

I think Mills is still the backup in Houston?

Jimmy, Stidham, Cassell were all raw

And he didn't take Mills because Mac was the better prospect same as Maye

Like he did in his other HC jobs when he was 11-41?

Yes! And trading up,down to acquire more picks. He was great with hitting on those later round picks for some reason as well. Mallet (RIP) I remember.. also Kevin O' Connell. Stidham for example has had so many opportunities to have a starting job.. here, Denver, LV.. he sucks!

You are attaching Davis Mills to Belichick because someone thought he was the type of QB Belichick may want. He didn’t draft him. He is not associated with him in any way.

I will take Vrabel, but I do not want a defensive minded head coach. I certainly do not want a guy who has been a head coach multiple times and failed like Spagnuolo. I guess in fairness, his second time around was only an interim head coach for a handful of games. But he was awful with the Rams.

Could he be one of those head coaches that failed his first time and then becomes a great head coach his second time around? Maybe. But I don't know if I want the Pats to be the test bed for that theory.

Hmmm I think Belichick did not do so great in his first head coaching role but did well on the next one

The guy is the best and most experienced head coach for 25 who realistically could be available

To be fair I was the one who brought Mills into the conversation because of those rumors so he was just responding to me.

Not like Maye. And Stid wasn’t developed he was sent packing so case in point. Ditto for Cunningham. He liked QBs that are smart and accurate with the football and jimmy had that exact profile

He picked Mac because he was more polished by far. Maye is/was not close to polished. Mills was a project. Bill doesn’t work with that type of QB.

No doubt he would have even passed on Josh Allen.

I hope the Pats are more forward thinking than turning to Vrabel. He’s not the answer.

Was he 11-41 and 65 years old?

How can 11-41 be the best? Experience at how to lose isn’t the kind of existence you want.

Your living in the world of your own make believe to fit your own bias. Bill would have passed on Allen lol how does that even come into this conversation do you magically know his opinion on Allen at the time. At least with Maye something was said on air. The hate just flows through you.

So he does not deserve another chance after 4 SB rings as DC and 6 years of great work in KC?
I would take him over Vrabel for sure

For example Ben Johnsons named keeps getting mentioned.. he has a variety of talent at the skill positions.. why would he leave that excel situation in Detroit?
