I’m a little confused by the last one because he didn’t say those last few sentences during the interview at all. He ended it with “I feel like we’re on the same page”. So I don’t know where Reiss pulled the rest of that from. But even with that extra phrasing, it doesn’t help Mayo - it probably hurts even more.
Mayo didn't pay his duesMayo looks like a nice man that was never cut out to be a football coach. I'm trying very hard to be nice to him but I find his quizzical, befuddled looks to be as maddening as the fact that he can't even seem to get his cap on straight.
**** Macpherson was twice the coach that he is. A sad but true statement.
What a vacuous load of bs...

I dunno. The players really seem to like 'duck duck goose Tuesdays', and of course let's not forget about 'food truck Fridays'.I don’t know what to think here.
I hope the Krafts know no star player will want to come here under Mayos leadership.
They saw how he threw players under the bus to the media.
It’s not even about Mayo throwing people under the bus, although it is part of it. It’s also - although players want to get paid, and they don’t all necessarily prioritize winning above all else, they DO want to be marketable. This team is just completely unsexy and unmarketable right now, it has no identity. Signing a big deal to come here under Mayo means you will just disappear from the limelight entirely and your ad deal offers probably dry up.I don’t know what to think here.

Why even do this though. If Kraft wants to keep Mayo is there any chance he would hire an Assistant Head Coach? If he hires a good Assistant Head Coach and he helps Mayo improve the team then it would help his resume. If Mayo continues to struggle then he could fire Mayo mid season and promote the Assistant Head Coach.
This is, having removed the training wheels of BB and SB from Mayo, observing him having then crashed and burn, going out and shopping for replacement training wheels to prop up the empty suit again. Why keep him around if you've got to continually pay someone else to do his job? Let's just admit that you can't get blood from a stone or a HC from Mayo.T

This is like a slap in the face to the assistant head coach.
it makes it seem like Mayos job is borderline worthless.
His contribution is not needed in this scenario.
If Mayo is back next year, the Krafts better be OK with an empty stadium & picking first again in 26.Again, Mayo ain't going anywhere. He said today they are all on the same page, himself and ownership.

We are the Bengals.
Don't disagree. We can't do anything about it unfortunately. If Mayo is back next year, the Krafts better be OK with an empty stadium & picking first again in 26.
This has become the worst franchise in professional sports.
The Bengals would be a couple of steps up.Again, Mayo ain't going anywhere. He said today they are all on the same page, himself and ownership.

Don’t worry, he can walk it back.Mayo was asked this morning by Mike Reiss “what are the most impactful things you’ve accomplished as a coach this year?”
Mayo stammered for a few seconds obviously not able to think of anything and ultimately answered with “I weathered the storm”, which is another way of saying “I didn’t get fired yet”.
There you have it folks - Jerod’s sole accomplishment for 2024 - “didn’t get fired yet!”
Jesus. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard him say anything of substance.

That should have been his answer for the one impactful thing from his coaching. His gameplan of saying something and then walking it back should be on display at the Patriots Hall of Fame. From now on coaches who do that will be said to have “pulled a Mayo.”I'm sure that will happen on Wednesday. Should make a prop bet for it. @Ian?
