Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

This is very dismay[o]ing. I wonder how many more are thinking along the same lines.

I wonder how many more there are?

We didn’t know about White until just now.

I think Brissett, was basically saying the same thing recently.

IMO don't believe what Kraft is publicly saying. There's a relationship here.

There were leaks earlier, and this is his way of shutting them down.

Kraft's finishing the season with Mayo, so he should be behind him to the fans. For now.

"I personally don't take consolation prizes," he said when asked about the Patriots performance in Buffalo. "I want to win. So that's just how I feel about it."

"You learn things from losses, " he admitted. "You learn things from wins. You can learn things from every situation that you're in. But I believe that a loss is a loss. There's no such thing as a good loss. There's no such thing as, like, all the consolation prizes and everything like that. At the end of the day, we get paid to win, and that's how you continue to get paid."

White was asked why it's been so hard for this defense to get on the same page.

"I'd rather no comment for (that)," said White matter of factly.

wild I brought up consolation prizes without reading the quote.

Can’t wait til we trade White to the Chiefs for 6th round pick.

There's no other way to read between the lines on this than that even the players recognize they're being sent out to play buzz box electric football by Kraft's incompetent coaching staff.

I’d rather trade Mayo to anyone for whatever we can get.

Certainly there is a demand for his services, otherwise why would Krafty Bob put it in his contract to ensure we didn’t lose him?

There is a future defensive leader for the Pats if they play this right.

Will they?

Probably not. Though he's still under contract, so there's a lot to still happen.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment. Read between the lines. Kraft was NEVER going to give Mayo only one year. He set a flimsy standard a week ago that Mayo would only be in danger if the Patriots completely imploded the last 3 games and that already didn't happen and all the heat on Mayo in the media died down. Every single reporter with a line to Kraft already cooled and walked things back after the Bills game.

It's a waste of time. Unless Mayo gets blown out in the last two games, gets in a fist fight with the players, and maybe ****s Jonathan Kraft's wife, he's getting at least the first half of next season.

Or we can just make it look like he was with Krafts wife.

Come on Patriots nation don’t give up the good fight.

My biggest concern with this regime is players have shot their way off the team and a few others have raised concerns,

What top free agent is going to land with Mayo.

Players come for other players, not coaches. If Maye is good, they'll want to be here regardless of the coach.

Also who significant shot their way off the team under this regime? I mean the last regime we had Gronk, Brady, Gilmore all ditch and a few lineman take their free agency chances. But so far White is the only one making noise.

My gut is that they keep both Mayo and Wolf. They'll keep AVP and Covington as coordinators, but probably try to bring in some experienced assistants to help.

Between the high draft picks and the amount of cap space they have, they can almost fall ass backwards into a better roster next year. I don't see Wolf as a great evaluator though so I don't think they'll turn it around in some major way. Mayo still seems to be a poor game management coach and the coordinators don't seem great. Outside voices rarely works. I expect the team to still struggle even with a better roster. Maye probably carries them to some more wins with a closer to respectable supporting cast but still short of the playoffs.

If they end next year looking like an ok (not great roster) with a budding star at QB being held back by still less than great supporting personnel and bad in-game coaching, that's going to be viewed as a GREAT job for a new regime. So they can fire Mayo/Wolf after 2 years (instead of 1) on the job which makes the whole thing looks less dysfunctional and "fair" and have their pick of the top HC/GM combos of the hiring cycle.

My biggest fear is that they fire Mayo, keep Wolf only for him to do a poor job with the roster. That makes for a tough coaching hire too because now it needs to be someone who's fitting in with the GM vs. bringing his own guy with him. And if Wolf does a poor job again, then the coach is set up to fail, even if he's better than Mayo. Then they probably have in-house friction, might need to fire Wolf for his poor job. Now you might have another mismatch, or the coach has to go to clean house over.

Overall it just gets messy when you have mismatched HC/GM duo. I'd just keep the whole football regime tied at the hip, at least in those 2 spots.

And he wasn't a coach during Free Agency Afaik.
That's a BIG Difference.

Just Sayin'

Excellent point. Vince's winning record in 69 is amazing considering it's the only winning record the Redskin's had in the 60's. Quite an amazing single season turn around, all without FA.
