Huh... So the ho hum line play is okay with you then, while the best guy we have is sidelined? That's a loser mentality.

He might not be the best offensive lineman in the league, but he's the best we have. So hell yes I want to see him play.
Truth is we don’t even know if he is our best guy .. the line play had been so bad there absolutely has to be responsibility passed on to the coaches. It didn’t seem like any of them know what’s going on. Horrible penalties continuously… there is absolutely zero cohesiveness .. and that I would blame ALL on coaching. Skill set will get you to the pros no doubt , but this oline looks worse than any college game I’ve watched in over 40 years.

Wonder if their intention is to push Dave Andrews out for 2025.
David did say he would like to play 1 more year ... do not think he said more than 1.

2025 is the last year of his deal... he's not getting another deal here... 3.25m in cap savings if they cut him loose after this season... given the "fiscal restraints" of playing for this team, i'd wager he's dead man walking...

If nothing more, I want to see if he's truly worth keeping beyond this season. That'll give us an idea if we need even more OL players than we know that we already need.

If you're firing the GM, it's because you thought he was making bad decisions and don't trust him to make good ones. So do you really want him having another year to make bad decisions? It puts some time constraints on the new GM and forces him to get himself up to speed like you pointed out, but I think that's just part of what comes with the new title.

I feel like teams fire their GMs right after the season pretty routinely and have someone new in place for the offseason. Maybe I'm missing something though. I know there's cases of teams waiting until after the draft to part ways like you describe, but feels like that's the outlier, not the norm. Unless I'm off, I see it as pretty normal to just fire the GM after the season and the new guy takes over.
It is NOT clear to me whether Wolf has even been the GM, other than as an acting interim one; he certainly doesn't have the title.

I do not expect to Wolf to leave the organization, even if a GM is hired.

Cutting Andrews after this season will tell everyone a lot about future plans and about the organization. The Patriot Way would be truly buried.

If Andrews is healthy, given his history with the team, he would play out his contract year while mentoring backups in every season since Kraft bought the team.

Perhaps, we will truly make a break with the past.

The past is always there especially if you love the game, the team, the positives, the negatives. It's in your DNA. Truly.

Definitely. Strange should play some snaps the next few games to see how he holds up. Practice and in a controlled environment really does nothing to show if a guy can hold up. However he also has to line up next to guys that probably should be working at home depot.

Break a leg.
Im not watching im not watching ... lol

I would prefer to keep Andrews another year (if he doesn't retire and can physically play at a decent level). Even then, they need a young and solid Center (and a young backup besides Andrews) who can start from Day 1 if they need him to. Another year of Andrews on the team would be a good influence on the new guys coming in.

If the organization decides to make HC changes I wonder if Wolf goes as well?? I see us moving around in the draft to collect picks becuase we have so many needs all over the roster.
I doubt that the front office changes. Look, the Patriots cleared out cap space by letting veterans like Matthew Judon go, only shopping in the bargain aisle, and holding onto to draft picks in 2024. A lot of us debated whether they were tanking and now know they were. Eliot Wolf laid very low and is nowhere to be seen right now. Smart move.

I don't know how many people here remember ML Carr as the Head Coach of the 1996-97 Celtics, but he was the loyal soldier in the organization, posted a winning percentage under .300 with a bad team and cleared the way for Rick Pitino who proceeded to screw everything up on so many levels it was hard to imagine (fire Larry Bird?). I see Jerod Mayo as the ML Carr of the 2024 Patriots.

Mayo oversees a tank year and endures 2025 as the front office loads up in the offseason with lots of roster turnover and probably a coaching change. Wolf inherited Mayo. Let's see if he is empowered to pick his own guy.

Our parlor game now is: Who stays and who goes: 1) on the roster, and that may go as deep as 50% of the 53-man roster at the end of the season, 2) on the coaching staff. I can easily check the names of 25 players who should go.

They should keep all the rookies drafted in 2024 - these kids were brought into hot mess in transition. It's just not their fault. Anybody who has coached any sport where there is a transition from JV to varsity understands that the older kids have to lead the way as newcomers find their way against better competitors than they've ever played against. I disagree with anyone who is trashing these rookies. They are not costly and deserve another year in a stable situation.

With his $139M Eliot Wolf needs to sign veterans who can play and can lead. The Patriots need guys who are good players but not divas like Matt Light, Tedy Bruschi, Danny Amendola, Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, Mike Vrable. I'm not sure who on this team fits that category - Dugger? Hooper? Henry? Onwenu? Bourne? Stevenson? Hernandez? Bentley? Maybe. But there needs to be grown-ups in that locker room around Drake Maye. (And, Eliot Wolfe, draft your *** off with all the picks you have!)

I'm in favor of keeping Mayo for another year, keeping SVP at OC and his system in place for Drake Maye. Finding a new, experienced DC from a top program feels right, but I'd listen to the players and Mayo's evaluation. The OL Coach has to go. This OL has not improved as the season progressed. We knew there would be challenges early, but the continued penalties, missed blocking assignments, and lack of consistency in any phase of the blocking scheme is the coach's fault.

Great stuff!! Thank you for this insight. Yes I do remember ML carr by the way! Lol.. I'll say this.. we all knew this season was about setting the foundation and development of Drake. Wich was done. The issues here are even in a moot season growth needs to dhow. Outside of Drake no one's gotten better. The games are just rinse and repeat each week. Now we face a division opponent who let's say most of us expect a blowout. It could take a game like that to really make ownership realize things. I agree this staff will be here next season as bad as Change need to happen. On defense wich is Mayo's wheelhouse is where this team has really fallen.. pelligrino, Brian, covington, Mayo, all BB disciples who have been here and coaching in the defense. It's disappointing to see them playing poorly. Buffalo may hang 60 on them.

wouldn't mind finding a vet like Mike Compton to bring in... if any are available

I'm still familiarizing myself with who might be available in FA and/or trade for 2025. At present, I'm not sure.
