The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

A lot of posters look a like idiots for saying it would never happen. A lot of posters look like idiots saying the BB only cared about Shula's record. Etc., etc., etc. BB loves football and is going to coach football. It is as simple as that.

It is Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt - I am not mentioning any names

It will be interesting to see how aggressive he is in turning the program around. I want to see his demeanor. See if he softens up a bit on the college folks or reverts back to the grump. I tell you what though, he made UNC exciting just like that. Biggest story in college football.

Does Michael Jordan like football?
Bill now has to meet with boosters and convince them to re-route some of the money that they contribute to the basketball program.

Hope he remembers to bring along “Johnny Foxborough” just in case his QB recruits don’t pan out!

Blows my mind. As if a lot of those scrub teams could do ****ing better. Come on. Raheem Morris? Brian Daboll, Kevin Stefanski, Zac Taylor? Bill ****ing Belichick!! One of those is not like the others.
Honestly, I am not surprised at all.

If the reports are true that he gave UNC a 400 pages document describing how he will organize thing just show that he still wants to be in control of every detail. I don’t buy one bit that he was ok working for a GM. And IMO, that scared a lot of team.

Add that he is 73 and you are hiring him for 2, 3 years max then is it really worth it for those team to tear down their program entirely for them to have to do it again in 3 years? And have no guarantee that it will work?

Bill track record without Brady isn’t great at all and I think these last 4 years really put doubt in those team that Bill would be able to rebuild their program.

I guess it wasn't all about the Shula record after all. It certainly surprises me that wasn't the be all end all for him, but as I commented earlier in this thread, BB is wired quite differently from a lot of us, and at the end of the day I think he just wants to be a coach doing coach things and accepts that the NFL is probably not for him anymore.

I think the issue for the NFL owners is quite complex, they know he can coach defense well at this point, but offense puts butts in seats and his last 5 years he failed to show he is on top of things on that side of the ball. Perhaps he just became too accustomed to delegating to McDaniels. I feel like the same is true as well for special teams. His age has to be a major factor for the owners as well, they can't see a guy north of 70 leading them to multiple championships. Can you really blame an NFL owner if they looked at both of these things and decided it just wasn't the right fit for their franchise? I can't.

he can help Jordon Hudson with her homework now

I agree that at this point he just want to coach.

If the reports about his son are true, he gets to coach and build a great program for his son to give him a door to maybe become a HC in the NFL.

Am really shocked. Any rumors why UNC instead of bigger football school?

I agree with this but if I’m a fan of another team in need of a head coach and they hire someone unproven without at least seeming to consider BB and it doesn’t work out I’m not sure I’d be mollified by being told it’s due to his age. This is especially true for season ticket holders.

Are the Falcons better off with Raheem Morris than they would have been with BB? Same question for the Bears and Saints who’ve already canned their guy, and the Giants, Cowboys, and Jaguars who may be firing theirs on Black Monday. I think Jacksonville would be stupid to pass on BB, Vrabel, or Flores.
How good would they be with Stephen Belichick as his DC and Matt Patricia as their OC?

Might I suggest an emotional support hamster

Might I suggest that to take a long drive off of a short pier?

The scary thing for me is who's going to want this job when the GOAT got such a short leash and his replacement will get a much shorter one. Why would a good experienced coach line up for this kind of treatment.
So you're one of those who feels that Bill should have been given more time but not Tom. You have that bass ackwards.

Brady should have got more time too.

That's cool and all, but 5 years is a half a decade. And contextually, his worst seasons of that run were the last two. You can't be mediocre during a rebuild and then be trending down towards the end and have the bottom fall out the final season. If Bill was hovering around .500 and on the edge of playoffs that is different.

He was also given pretty much total leeway on things like hiring Patricia and Judge. No other coach in the league would have been allowed to do that. You have to consider he was given a ton of trust and freedom up until his final year and the team got burned by it.

5 years is a lot of rope in the NFL
I wonder what happened 6 years ago that made the team drop off a cliff. Did Bill's big brain suffer a stroke?

No team is going to bring Bill in or he would have a job already.

But if he does then I hope all of his rumpswabs go with him.

No one ****ing wants Belichick. He's going to go down as one of the most overrated coaches (look at the results without Brady) in sports history. No one wanted him after Krafty Bob ****canned him, and no one wants him now.
Bill wasn't that bad without Brady. He only had 8 losing seasons out of 11.

The funny thing is Bill had no intention of moving on from Drew even after a 5-11 season and an 0-2 start. If not for Mo Lewis Brady might have sat on the bench for years.
