I've seen enough football brawls where pepper spray wasn't used to know that this was excessive. Nobody was in danger because players were pushing and shoving each other while wearing full pads.

Police state?!? Did you move out of the country?

There are some places in this country where people (legal and illegal) are walking into stores and taking whatever they want and repeat offenders are getting released time after time. That's hardly a police state.

IMHO this is more of an inditement of the institutions of "higher learning" and society in general rather than the police.

I moved to NH and noticed a big difference between the police here and MA. The NH police will hide the radar in multiple spots on 93 and sometimes even have a chase car to go after the speeders. As soon as I cross into MA I don't see another cop from NH to Boston.
