Comes from mcvay tree. Had some stellar play designs for Seahawks . Had challenges with devising what play call to run, but play design has been stellar. Could be a case where he was a bit too raw. He could be a great offensive assistant and help van pelt design some new plays and also build the talent within . We don't lose much by hiring him. He was just a scapegoat.

I wonder why though... Up to their by week, Chicago was doing alright, making progress...

Don't know enough about the bears / waldron to have a clear picture of what went down there

No harm I guess. AVP might also benefit from some fresh ideas from outside. I heard even Reid hired college coordinators to teach him spread offense before they took in mahomes.

I just googled what the "experts" were saying when Waldren was HIRED as the OC of the Bears. This is what one guy wrote.

"Hiring Waldron gives Eberflus an experienced, creative play-caller who has shown an ability to mix the run and pass. Having worked under Pete Carroll, Waldron knows how to run an offense for a defensive-minded coach and was credited with helping quarterback Geno Smith to his 2022 Pro Bowl campaign

Looks like is everything a team could want in an OC. He is experienced at play calling, designing game plans, and developing QB's. His hiring was universally lauded as the perfect fit for the Bears and Caleb Williams to thrive with the A level offensive pieces signed for this season.

Clearly he's the fall guy for the Bears offensive woes and Caleb's lack of progress in getting up to speed in running an offense against NFL defenses. But based on his past successful history he looked like he was the ideal hire. But the fact is that so many complex aspects go into how we can evaluate an OC's worth. Some include, player execution, defensive skill (they get paid too), officials calls and sometimes just plain luck, good and bad. A QB throws a bad pass and gets bailed out because of a remarkable catch. or an official's call.n

Now I have had my complaints about some of AVP's calls, just like I had with Josh. But there are so many things that we just don't know about going into the plan making process. Things like player availability on both teams, what D you are likely to see and your adjustments to how you will react to both the expected AND unexpected. Just like with players, before I overreact and fire everyone whenever we hit a speed bump, I want to see the development over some time before I make a judgement. Knee jerk reactions, like I read all the time here, are NEVER what ends up being good judgments

I am not saying he is the perfect guy, but can the overall offense enrich with new ideas and schemes that he might have . Not asking him to be the OC but a sounding board. Nobody wants to join us . At least get some retreads and see if they can shine in second stint.

And he has been dealt a rough hand. So might be a bit more wiser. Flores looks great in second stint, Kingsbury too along with Dan quinn.

To the OP

It's tough because that offense has so much talent at the skill positions. Is the problem the qb. The ol, the oc, or other? Idk.

So far it is mainly the QB.
Line is middle of the pack in pass rush win rate, Williams can't process so he holds ball forever waiting for someone to be open. Same as in college but his playmaking is not a Mahomes, Allen, Maye level so doesn't work in the pros. He has to completely change his game to be a success in the pros, not happening as a rookie.
The Patriots quote from the mic'd up was that he holds the ball for 6 seconds.
He has the arm and accuracy (other than deep balls) to be a middle of the road QB but he'll need to put in a ton of work and, even then, unclear how much processing can be learned. You can go from OK to good or good to great but bad to good?

In analyzing draft QB's, processing is where teams miss. They all think they can teach that. But a lot of it is innate to the player's brain.

He was always a high bust potential and so far it is looking like that is coming true.

The Browns need somebody yesterday.

He could help Kevin Stefanski who the same guy who took play calling away from AVP.

The Pats passing offense by the numbers.

32nd passing yards
30th passing TDs
30th net yards gained

The Pats offense overall.

31st in points
32nd in yards
31st in first downs
27th in the redzone

We all know what needs to happen. Upgrade WR and OL.

Ben McAdoo is, supposedly, the guy filling that role. What exactly he's contributing, who knows?

He's the collateral damage from the GM/HC not happy with the offense. Drake has saved AVPs job.

I asked the same questions. He doesn't speak to the media I thought he was supposed to be like an assistant to the HC?

Good points. We aren't running the old patriots earndhart system anymore. This offense requires for guys to win on the outside. I'm stating to learn more on adding a #1 via trade.

I found this video of three former NFL linemen dumbfounded about the Bears Offense. Pretty funny. Pretty fair to say that they aren’t Shane Waldron fans. Funniest part is about 20 minutes in where they work out that a play call possibly got garbled so that the pass blocking got sent to the other side of the field than the intended pass pattern by mistake. Smoke screen to the right but the QB sprints to the left.

This! What's also getting lost is he was given the Starting Job on draft night. He never had to come in and compete for it like Drake did. Now he may possibly end up getting benched.
