If matters continue more or less as they are, should the Krafts fire Mayo at season's end?

He needs to learn what to do at the end of the half. BB was great at managing those situations. You figure he would have picked something up by osmosis at least.
I have a feeling Mayo doesn't really DO a Hell of a lot between his ill-prepared press conferences and radio hits.

I have a feeling if we only win 2 more games or less Mayo is gone.
Unsure about Wolf.
Wolf did pick a franchise QB but the rest of the draft looks awful.
He needs Polk and Baker to mature quickly or squandering the rest of the draft looks awful.

The guy is so over his head
Why the hell is he “not sure”?
Does he not talk to do nothing wolf?

So why didn’t the Patriots strike a deal?

“I’m not sure,” Mayo said. “I mean, look, for us, it’s about value. It’s about thinking about the present and also trying to get better in the future.”

He should patent his speech formula.

1. Say nothing in a few words.
2. Follow up with "I mean, look," or "That said," or "On the other hand."
3. Say nothing in a bunch of words.

If that was the hiring criteria I should have applied too.

Especially as someone whose knowledge was commended by Belichick himself. Even I have been forced to eat crow, I really thought Mayo would bring the smarts to the table. I didn't expect greatness, but I at least expected discipline.

Not giving Wolf credit for picking Maye when every non-idiot GM would have done the same. It was a three QB draft and he had the third pick.

I’ll grade him for everything else and everything else has been horrible so far. The draft picks and free agents

That would at least lead us to an honest search for a HC in a year or 2.

If he remains terrible the Krafts have no choice but to fire him. The nightmare scenario is that he learns enough to become moderately mediocre then rides Maye to the playoffs year after year. Mayo will be getting his lunch taken by the other playoff coaches every single time and will keep his job because "he makes the playoffs every year."
Mayo's ceiling is Marvin Lewis, the greatest mediocre coach in NFL history. Long tenure with the Bengals, .517 career record with some playoff appearances, but not one playoff victory in 16 seasons of being Cincinnati's head coach.

He should run for president.

I expect we’ll win a couple. Some team who shouldn’t lose to us will be caught napping. Happens every year.

As for the OP question I was willing to give JM a shot till end of year 2 and one full offseason. I’d say it depends on how the team looks over the next couple of months. Are they finishing strong? That’s something they haven’t done in a while.

If they look uncompetitive and poorly coached then yeah he should be one and done. If not then I think his coordinators should at least be changed.

It looks like he is all of the above...uncompetitive at times, then they are. ****ty coaching at times and then not so ****ty (I'm not saying good for a reason). Someone should be made an example of at least. Honestly, I would look at the defensive side of things since they can't stop anything. At least the O can show they can play at times, albeit on Drake's shoulders... Can't say who though, maybe Covington but doubt that would happen.

He doesn't look like Not, that's for sure (damn good movie, and very spot on with how things are).

Marvin lewis has better stats than bill without Brady... He never had a QB of the caliber of Brady or for that matter maye in current form . So let's not denigrate Marvin lewis . He was a decent coach and probably successfull one too.

Nah, these days you have to be a convicted felon to win.
I hope if you're ever brought up on charges, the judge gives the jury a list of 12 "crimes" to pick from when deciding guilt as opposed to the specific crime you're being tried for. It will get overturned on appeal because that's the first time that's every been tried in a trial in the US and it absurd.

No politics, please.

He had Carson Palmer & Andy Dalton, neither of whom were Brady but neither of whom were Corky Jones either.

At first I put like for the reply. But on this board we gave tried to avoid political comments

That’s actually an insult to Marvin Lewis who was among the best DC’s in the game before becoming a HC.

Mayo has zero credentials.

Nah, you giving him to much credit for that one. Wouldn't call that a stroke of genius to pick Maye after Caleb and Jayden were gone.

Which NFL coach has had a quarterback the caliber of Brady, not counting the three who actually had Brady? But, surprisingly, many head coaches have been able to win playoff games without a Tom Brady at quarterback. As the Captain has pointed out, in Cincinnati, Carson Palmer was a good quarterback who made two pro bowls and Andy Dalton, though not as good as Palmer, also made two Pro Bowls. I think not be able to win at least one playoff game with those two, particularly Palmer, and a sixteen-year record slightly above .500 defines mediocre. Heck, Jeff Fisher who is being maligned in this same thread, had virtually the same winning percentage in his career as Lewis, .512, but he at least managed to win five playoff games. I would not be happy if Mayo turns into the second coming of Marvin Lewis. Sixteen years is a long time to go without winning a playoff game.
