Pats front office at the deadline

My preferred draft strategy at this point. Get the number one, in fact we may outright earn it. Either way trade the top 3 pick and slide down a few slots while picking up a 2nd this year and two firsts for 26 and 27. Hell may do it again for a slot or two down the ladder in the 1st to pick up another 25 second. Pick the best WR on the board. Trade back into the first round with your newly acquired 2nd(s) and grab the best LT on the board. After that pick the best god damn player on the board at every pick irregardless of position. Obviously slide around a bit if it brings in some extra picks along the way.
I don't think we will get 3 1sts for our 1stm we might be lucky is we get an additional 2nd .

Wishlist - 1st for 2025 8th + 2026 1st , 2027 1st and 2025 2nd

Realistically - 2025 1st( top 10) + 2026 1st + 2025 2nd + 2027 2nd

Take care of OL and WR in free agency and take a top 5 DLinemen. Getting run on like this is demoralizing.

I betcha that the Pats will instead try to scoop up some vets who get cut from other teams and are now subject to waivers that otherwise wouldn't have been prior to the deadline.

Doubt it. This front orifice couldn't be bothered.

Since the above article was written, a total of 6 receivers were traded prior to the deadline:
  • - Mike Williams (5th Round Pick)
  • - Jonathan Mingo (Player and 7th Round Pick for a 4th Round Pick)
  • - Dionte Johnson (Player and a 6th Round Pick for a 5th Round Pick)
  • - DeAndre Hopkins (5th Round Pick / potential 4th Rounder)
  • - Amari Cooper (Player and 6th Round Pick for a 3rd and 7th round picks)
  • - Davonte Adams (3rd Round Pick or 2nd Rounder if Player becomes an All-Pro)
I believe that with the exception of “Pop” Douglas, each of these receivers are better than any of our current receivers and “Pop” may only exceed Williams and Mingo.

Certainly the cost for each was not overly excessive so I have to wonder if: 1) our front office disagrees and believes the talents of Mssrs Thornton, Polk, Baker, and Osborn exceed these traded players, or 2) deemed that the draft choice(s) used to obtain a player in trade would be more valuable to providing support for D. Maye, or 3) we picked/signed them so “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” and we’ll fix it with the draft and “burnin some cash’….

This is the one I might've done.

Adams is a big name player who made a stink about not wanting to be in LV and would do the same here. Mingo is a project that's probably an upgrade over Thornton in that project role but not worth giving up a decent day 3 pick for when we have so many JAGs at WR.

Hopkins/Williams/Johnson/Cooper are all on expiring contracts. By all accounts, the point of them "buying" at WR or anywhere else was to add pieces that they'd want to extend. It would cost draft picks vs. waiting until free agency, but for a young player who might get tagged or have enough suitors, it's worth it to get the head start. That's what CHI did last year with Montez Sweat, for example. If they want one of Williams/Johnson/Hopkins/Cooper SOOOOOOOO badly, they can offer them bloated contacts this offseason and keep the picks...

I wonder if giving the Panthers their choice of any or all of BoneyT, Polk & Baker might've persuaded them to lower their demand from a 4th to a 5th...

Now that he is still on this roster.. the team needs to at least play him with Drake to see if anything can come to fruition.. they didn't trade or release him so may as well play him

They need to have a similar approach in FA to build roster depth. This is in addition to making any big ticket signings. Training camp next year needs to be competitive.

Everyone in Patriots nation should be hoping for one or more of the top QB prospects to flash to drive up the price of our pick.

All in all this season is everything we could have expected. Growing our franchise QB, setting the culture with an all new staff and will likely have a top 5 pick in draft. I'm no longer complaining we know this team has 32nd ranked roster.

Again, they're playing him in practice with Drake. They should know what he's able to do with Drake. If he's not getting into games, there's a reason for that.

Practice is one thing.. needs to be in real live game situations.. he was lightning it up in Practice all camp.. now I mentioned playing with Brissett first 5 games he as well as all the wide outs should get a pass. However he's active one week and non active the next. Now he wasn't traded. It's pretty evident he's basically a bust.. the teams owes it to them to at least see if he and the franchise QB can connect any.

Love the moves at the deadline the silence is deafening.

I agree that the primary objective for the season, namely evaluating the franchise QB, is going well. The culture may be trending in the right direction. The rest is not going well. The coaching staff needs major revisions. The most damning thing is that outside of Drake, Slye is the best new player added to the roster. The team needs to do much better this off season to make progress on getting to the playoffs.

What kept you Real welcome... there's no hope for Thornton.

Yes. The expectations were for the QB position to be better than the last few seasons.. Brissett ended up being worse than they imagined.. so Drake having been a pleasant suprise with his development put them in a conundrum.. they would have liked him to sit the while season had Brissett and some of the WRs panned out. Securing the OL is the number 1 priority this off season.
