Teams calling Pats about Gonzalez

Trading away guys you deemed as leaders for the future would certainly be an odd message.
I find it interesting.. that KJ, Thornton, and Dugger are all inactive as thier names are in trade speculation.

I feel once we add some pass rushers to our front gonzo and the secondary as a whole will be able to have more opportunities.
both you and @TheRainMaker pointed that out... which was a point honestly i didn't fully consider.

sometimes, too many moving pieces, lol

I know my friend.. lost of conversations all of our poster expertise on here. LOL.
But yes Jennings I'm really impressed with.. he's getting better as a complete football player and has been the best player to front all season. We need at least 2 impact pass rushers. It will help white, Jennings and Barmore. The secondary could then have more opportunities to turn the ball over like they usual have done. Also a side note: find it interesting Dugger is inactive as his name was mentioned in a trade possibility..

Trading Dugger would be wild in my opinion. Not just the dead money and all that but the fact they deemed him as a guy to build around and then named him a captain a few weeks ago.

Yes! After reading up on it he has been dealing with an ankle issue so his isn't trade related. As if he were traded it sends a bad message around the league and to potential FAs.

They would never trade him at least I don't think so but with this FO you never know.

Start the bidding at 3 first rounders and a starting quality OT.

He's going to be a cornerstone player on defense. He's on a cheap rookie deal. I see ZERO reason to do this unless we get a franchise left tackle in return.

While extremely rare we see a top player for player swap, Champ Bailey (who was one of the best CB's in the game) got traded for Clinton Portis (another top player at his position).

Gonzalez certainly isn't untouchable if the right price is met.

I like Gonzo. its one of the three "untouchables" from what I have read... Maye, Gonzo & Barmore... but... There's always a but, isn't there?

I don't see what everyone else seems to see, a shut down corner. I see a good corner, not great. Maybe that changes as he gets better. He certainly has talent and will most likely grow into that promise. There is no denying that.

So maybe I'm off base, missing something. That could absolutely be the case. won't be the first time, won't be the last. You give me a couple 1's and I am trading him tomorrow. Or by tuesday the 5th. I don't expect anyone else to agree with me.
You're off base:

You're off base:

"for the most part"

and as I said, i see a good corner not great, allowing he has the talent to grow and develop.

but yeah, overall a swing and miss. Happened before, will happen again.

This is kinda how i look at everyone on the roster not named drake maye.

I'm with you. He's not there yet, but people are trying to find stats to prove he's is. I really haven't seen him be a game altering player yet.

We'll see when the Pro Bowl and All Pro voting happens. If he doesn't get recognition, he ain't there yet.

let them make all the offers they want. we should be exceptionally deceitful. waste these other fcks time this time around.

Quality cover CBs are the most difficult players to obtain, short of an elite QB, so there is no freaking way the Patriots should let Gonzo go. It would be insane. This is the type of guy to build a D around; too bad that the front office (but probably Kraft) has been doing their best to ruin the rest of the defense now that they have finished ruining the offense.

This reminds me of sending ridiculous trade requests in Fantasy Football to other players who clearly don't know what they're doing. You never know if they're dumb enough to accept it. Hilarious that others teams view our FO like this.

Disagree Pape. Gonzalez is already showing that he can shut down the best receivers in football, and he hasn’t even played a full season of football. When you find players with that kind of upside you don’t let go of them. I wouldn’t take two firsts for him. They already used a first on him so that’s like trading him for a first round pick.
Is Gonzalez that good? I mean the patriots record since we drafted him is 6-20. Is he that much of an impact player? Is he Patrick Surtain perennial all pro hall of fame good? Otherwise, I would easily accept two first round picks for him

You’re blaming their bad record because of Gonzo? Lmao what a take!

CB's aren't going to win games by themselves and can only do so much. We all know it always comes down to who the QB is. Case in point, Deion Sanders had one winning season in Atlanta. Champ Bailey had one winning season in Washington. Darrelle Revis had 3 winning seasons out of 7 in New York. Jalen Ramsey was on mostly ****ty Jaguars teams. There are many other examples.

Aside from that, I do agree he's not a game changer like the players above and posters are trying desperately want him to be good because there's nothing else to look forward to.

Let’s say for the sake of argument that the entire league now agrees on Gonzalez and think that going forward he’ll be pretty good but not the best in the league. They expect him to have the career of Asante Samuel, basically. Pretty happy to have him as a #1 CB but not quite top tier.

What would be the trade value of trading for an Asante Samuel level player in his second year of a controlled rookie contract?

I’d say that’s worth more than two firsts from a perennial contender like the Chiefs or Ravens. This isn’t a guy you’re struggling to fit under the cap next year. He’s not a malcontent or a non system fit. In my view a team would have to way overpay for him. (And I think that Gonzo’s career will probably be better than Samuel for the record.)
