Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

This idea that legacy is defined by how others think of us is crazy.

I live in Buffalo and I can tell you the fans are so despondent at the quarter century of losing that they have lost their minds.

So you might as well say, "Your legacy is defined by the levels of insanity of your foes. The more insane they are, the worse your legacy."
That's not exactly the point I was making but noted.

But also yes regardless of insanity levels popularity especially outside of your home market does play a large part in the perception of your legacy.

Bill will say something when he has something useful to say. He doesn't just speak to hear his own voice unlike some posters on here. If someone asks for his opinion or he has something insightful to say, he will say it as always ! That is his mojo and I love it !!
And, BB is right.

After BB turns around the NY Giants, its going to be funny when John Mara thanks Bob Kraft for firing BB.

Legacy is absolutely defined by how others think of them, good or bad. It’s their complete story and the impact they had.

Where do you live?

If you live outside NE, I can tell you that people hate the franchise because they lost to the Patriots over and over.

There is nothing that the Patriots did that brought them to that hate. Spygate, deflategate, none of this matters to those people. They hated losing over and over. FULL STOP.

Their team was inadequate. All you need to know.

A chip shot that any Johnny Foxboro could've made.
True it was only a 35 yarder but I remember him missing a similar one last year vs the Giants(?).
The poster wanted to dunk on Ryland/BB and I don't really think that having a field goal blocked is on the kicker. Especially that one. The person who blocked it was effectively unblocked.
I am very glad that the Pats have Joey Slye as their kicker. But after the horrendous year Ryland had last year, it looks like he has recovered and found his groove. I believe he has hit all his xp's this year and the only miss he has is the one that was blocked. He also hit a 57 yarder this past week. The main thing that everyone mentioned when Ryland was in the draft was his unbelievable power. Hopefully he continues being accurate.
Not to say that Ryland will turn into Adam V, but I remember Vinatieri also having struggles early in his career. I don't know how long Ryland will be with the Cards when Prater comes back, but it is good to see him have some success even when it isn't with the Pats. I think the anti BB, "wasted a 4th on a kicker" agenda needs to stop when the Pats are currently a dumpster fire that have many more problems than a who the kicker is. Maybe Ryland is kicked to the curb and never heard from again when Prater is healthy. Maybe he becomes Morton Anderson. Most likely he will bounce around the league just like Joey Slye.
I just find it kind of disingenuous that someone tries to rip Belichick by showing that the kicker that he drafted in the 4th round had a kick blocked. I think that would be more a rip on the guy who drafted the blocker on the end of the line but what do I know.

So you think Bill will concede personnel control then? Or not insist on bringing his usual Clowns with him?

Because that's the Only way he'll ever turn around Anything.

Never.

Billy also wasted an early 6th-rounder on Wideleft because he traded UP for him.

Never forget Jordan Richards too. Am I right?

Your takes are getting colder every time you hit the post button.

Extremely doubtful Bill will ever be an NFL HC again. Not at age 73. But if he became a DC again I think he'd have his choice of where he wants to go.

Legacy has nothing to do with hate or jealousy. It's his story. It's all about what a guy is known for in his time in the NFL and how did he impact the league? That's a question that has to be answered both inside and outside of the team area which he is most associated with.

BB's legacy even if a bit complicated as I mentioned, still puts him on the top tier of coaches and at least arguable that he is GOAT. (I always said for coaches it's very hard to argue who is GOAT - with players it's very easy.)

What I am telling you is this: because fans hate losing to the Patriots, they blame their inadequacies on totally irrelevant stuff. For instance, Deflategate not only has nothing to do with Belichick because he was no part of it, but it has nothing to do with anything. Even if Brady had done that, which he didn't, there was no competitive advantage to doing it. But people will bring that up because they hated all the losing.

I've only talked to 100+ Buffalo fans about this and they all admitted that it has everything to do with being sore losers.

But hey if you want to go on thinking this is somehow significant, go ahead.

The Giants will give BB full control as GM/HC as he deserves. No way they keep Joe Schoen who is in his 3rd year as GM. Time is up and he was involved in Dan Mac Jones horrendous contract.

Dont be shocked to see Saban at some capacity on BBs staff.

.

Do you just wake up in the morning and try to think of ways to piss off Patriots fans? Today you decided calling him a DC would really grind some gears.

That would be very interesting.

What I actually said "But if he became a DC again I think he'd have his choice of where he wants to go."

=/=

"Calling him a DC"

Weird that you're putting words in my mouth.

The dude is 73. Who on earth would want to hire him as their HC now? If he wants to be a DC the market would be much bigger for him.

This is his legacy

His legacy is 6 rings. Yes he really has 8 but I bet Joe Average Fan wouldn't consider his coordinator work as "rings" in the same sentence as his HC work and neither do I.

Nice boat tho.

Good, now shut up about all that other crap you keep trolling everyone with.

Yeah, just held the K-Gun offense to 19 points in the Super Bowl.
Montana was held to 3 points by them in 86 and to 13 points in 90.
They shutout Washington's Hogs and Smurfs in the NFC Championship game. The next year that same Washington team scored 49 points in the Super Bowl.
His defensive gameplan for a Super Bowl is in the Fall of Fame.
