Pats front office at the deadline

With Aiyuk going down, I fully expect the 49ers to want to go after Bourne. I think it would be a mistake to trade him unless the 49ers over-pay with something like a 3rd round pick.

A third round pick for Kendrick Bourne (when Hopkins just went to KC for a 4th), would be the highwayest of robberies.

I love Kendrick Bourne, btw. But he's like a Bourne and a 6th for a 5th kind of trade.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone but Maye, Barmore, White, Gonzalez and Marcus Jones are on the block.

I'd add Dugger, the new center Ben Brown, Douglas, the two kickers, and whichever of the rookie offensive lineman they think has the most promise for a solid 2025. Hunter Henry may be a keeper this year since it looked like he and Maye have some chemistry last week.

The issue for me at the trade deadline is what to do with the $37 million in unspent effective cap space. Under the current situation, they'll shed $40 million (of the $46M) in 2024 Dead Cap money in the offseason, so they'll enter 2025 with plenty of cap space and early draft picks again.

If someone is dangling a defensive lineman on a reasonable contract who can help stop the run, they should make that move.

I think you are both. Sell vets that have value and are short term here. But keep an eye open for a young guy that may come available at a position of need that can help build the foundation. Sweat to the Bears last season for example.

I wouldn't have a fire sale, but I would trade away some players that other teams may need or value enough to give us meaningful draft choices. Then use our large cap space to get one or two solid vets.

Uche - On an one year deal and is a part time player. Some team could use a pass rusher.
Osborn - We aren't even using him and he is on an one year deal anyway...
Bourne - Would be nice to get his new deal off our cap (7.9M in 2025). The Niners could use him.
Thornton - It is over now...the kid just won't succeed in Foxborugh. I mean he had a good camp...and now in week 8 likely will be inactive after starting early in the year...dunno why.
Okorafor - He is AWOL basically...some other team like the Steelers might like him back. I don't care what we get in return...a 7th would be fine. He isn't ever suiting up for us again.

I'd love to play the rest of the season with Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, Antonio Gibson, JaMycal Hasty, Rhamondre Stevenson, Ja'Lynn Polk, Demario Douglas, Javon Baker, and Kayshon Boutte. All of these guys are under contract and will be here next year.

I'm not saying this draft was a home run or anything, but I do think its a bit early to completely judge it one way or the other. I think the Wallace kid has potential, unfortunately he caught the Foxborough OL injury bug. Polk needs to see a psychatrist and hit the jugs machine. Robinson... is playing. Baker, well I personally can't stand the kid so there's that. Dial was a solid college corner, I honestly haven't seen him play much or notice if he has. And Milton, not really sure what that pick was about.

Edit: I forgot to mention Bell. I really liked him coming out of college and it be nice to see him get some more snaps.

Outside of Maye obviously, you may have 3 or 4 starters/contributors in there. If that pans out you can't really say it was a terrible draft. I Wallace was healthy you'd have 4 of them starting, for better or worse.

I’m not only excited about the #1 overall pick, but I would want them to hit on #33. In fact, I hope they trade away the #1 pick and pick three times between 1 & 33. And grab another for 2025.

I believe there is still a move they can make now to be part of next season.. as we all know they have to add premiere talent at every skill position. I saw on ESPN of myles Garrett possibly being avaliable.. a trade for him would definitely ne huge going forward. Wether or not they make a move or not they will still be picking in the top 5.

Agree. Problem is non the of those players have any trade value. So probably better of releasing or keeping them to play out thier contracts. I really like Boutte and I think he is developing a nice repore with Drake. We need to get baker on the field.. the team needs to asko see what Drake and Tyquan can have for a deep connection before they totally shut the door on him. At the least Tyquan can be good for 2 to 3 deep attempts a game. KB is still getting back into the swing from missing time I think once he gets back in the groove he will be a nice option for Drake.

The Pats should look for a trade mid-season or close to the trade deadline almost as if they were on free agency, make a sound investment, looking at next year. That time of the year some teams are out of contention so you can find talent on a discount. Free agency is always more expensive and players are not really excited to coming here and thats pretty clear.

The Pats should look carefully not only at LT but also Center, Andrews is probably not coming back, he's certainly not going to stay for a lenghty rebuild. That way trading for a player mid-season you still have time for the player to gel with the current roster a bit, and then a full offseason next year. For OL that's valuable. There's really no other way if they don't trade or sign a FA they will have to use a 2nd or 3rd round pick pretty soon on a Center and then endure the development of that player with a 2nd year QB.

I keep thinking this is a idea to consider, if the right player is there. I wouldn't mind trading the Atlanta 3rd.
I just doubt this front office is competent enough to pull that trade.

Wallace was supposed to play LT. Lowe beat him out. Way before any injury. Wallace only played when UDFAs were all that was left.

Wallace was supposed to be good because Fashanu was a superstar that pushed Wallace from LT to RT. Turns out that Fashanu, the 11th overall pick, is not playing and is now on the bench. In other words, Wallace was beat out by a guy that is not that good.

The NFL Trade Deadline is November 5, 2024.

All of the ingredients are there for a classic addition by subtraction scenario. The Patriots have plenty of cap space ($37M) to pick up contracts of veterans who can make an immediate and near-term impact. Wolf has players who want out. If the deal is good enough, he has early draft picks in each round to trade.

Some of these teams with no cap space may be in the market to get what they can for veterans who could be upgrades for the Patriots. The Bengals and Browns, the Texans, the Eagles, the Broncos, and the Saints may be up for a deal that involves less expensive player, a draft pick and gets them some cap space.

The Patriots should hang onto their top four picks - their first three rounders and the Falcons' 3rd pick that came in the Judon trade...unless someone blows their socks off with a OT or an interior DL.

Kraft and Wolf are in a similar position as the Red Sox ownership. They need to show the fan base they are serious about improving this team. It's especially important for them to spend money on this team while they have a most affordable QB room. The Red Sox owners showed us they're not interested in competing.

The media should quit harping on the "soft" comment and put heat on Wolf and the Krafts. The Patriots did play soft in London (and in the first Jets game), so they can own that and come out pi$$ed off this Sunday. The real work needs to be done in the front office right now.
