Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

Perfectly put brother.. on the defensive side guys needed to be humbled and called out.. bills called players alot worse than soft over the years.. big fnn deal.. if Mayo said they played soft then that's what he saw is my opinion.

What he needs to see is why. And then fix it.

If it’s one or two or a few players it’s them, and they need to be coached to fix it.

If it’s all the players it’s something institutional, and that’s on the coaching staff and FO.

Judon, Peppers, Barmore, Bentley...

There's the problem - those are four (well. 3.5) in-the-box beasts.

Bentley is as good as any LB against the run. Barmore is a pure bear at the line. Peppers hits like a truck, and Judon was worth a couple of TFL every game.

That's a lot of talent off the field, right there.

Like I said he is a rookie head coach - and one with no experience who looks exactly like that right now. It's not a good start but I expect he'll get better. Otherwise it's out the door and time for the next guy.

I'd happily take BB, Weis and Crennel from 2003 back today. Also the QB but that goes without saying.

Too bad all we have is the 2024 BB who thinks hiring his buddies who are out of their element to run his offense was a recipe for success...

Kraft set Mayo up by opening his mouth last week. Bill swatted that thing right back over the net and Mayo took it off the chin.

I wish Bill would have still stayed relatively quiet like he has most of the season with the Pats but something was bound to be said.

I don't like it but it is kind of entertaining in a Felger kind of way.

When did belichick call out his own players publicly and say anything close to as bad as calling them soft ( players hear ****y when you call them soft )

So you are endorsing the HC of the NEP to cus h his players by publicly criticizing them to the media and questioning their toughness. You think if he sees that the right way to coach those players is to find a Mike and trash them? Are you for real?

He took the high road which I respected so much. This little dig at Mayo is priceless and I love it. He is right about the facts, some people don’t want to hear it because right now they have to hate Bill. Maybe in a couple of years they will really appreciate him and what he did for this organization for 20 plus years.
Back to the point, the defence is not soft. They are not playing well as a unit and that starts at the top!! Mayo better do something soon, otherwise he will lose the entire locker room and Kraft will have to make a tough decision!

Your 3 starting CBs were Earthwind Moreland, Hank Poteat and Troy Brown.

Ty Law and Tyrone Poole both went out with season-ending injuries, as did Randall Gay, a rookie draft pick, not long after, as did Je'Rod Cherry, a core special teamer who spent way too much time playing actual defense that year.

As I recall, Troy Brown was actually pretty good at playing CB! I recall that they had him in the slot most of the time.

Jerod Mayo was on-staff for that .426, and is now .143 without Belichick.

I’m convinced Belichick would have taken McCarthy. Not that he didn’t like Maye; his draft night commentary showed positives but highlighted all the work he needs. Whereas he didn’t do that with McCarthy; it was virtually all positives.

I know it is more of Bill twisting the knife but Mayo kind of walked right into it with this one. I don’t think they're soft. I just think they're not very good.

They are not very good because they lost Bentley and Barmore to injuries? Why are they not very good this year?
